Big 3 Question Again...

Ok I started doing the big 3. I am using 4 gauge wire. I know I know not 1/0 or 2 gauge...anyways, I have to do the alt to battery wire...but I read exploding batteries and got worried...what should I fuse that wire to? My alt puts out 90 amps and I was looking around and one website said power transmission for my wire was 60 amps...or did I read that wrong. Anyways, thanks for the help again.

power transmission in that sense they were talking about is like high voltage lines you see cutting thru the fields when you're on the highway. There was another rating that was like twice that. And remember, you're amp is not drawing 80 amps constant so your alternator is not producing it's max current all the time either. It has a voltage regulator on it, it varies it;s output based on the load.

Ok so what should I fuse that wire to? My amp says I need to fuse it's power wire to 150 amps. Fuses make me confused.

I would recommend running the wire directly as if you fuse it and the fuse blows you wouldn't know it and the car would no longer charge the battery. As for the fuse for the amp run the power wire from the battery post and within the first 18 inches of the power line put a 150 amp anl fuse in line which is there to prevent to much current from reaching the amp and also from damaging the vehicles electronics.

I have my big3 done for 4years... no fuses...no problems.

fuse it. 4ga can handle over 100a for short runs, fuse it to like 150a and ba happy. For your battery to explode you would have to be drawing hundreds or thousands of amps in a short quick discharge, and it doesnt actualy "explode" as it does boil sulfuric acid out of it with a sudden pop :)
no matter what noah sas, fuse it, if your fuse blows you protected your alt or battery (batteries are expensive and so are alernators, fuses are not) and if you run itin parallel with your OEM wire if your fuse blows for some odd reason and there is nothing wrong the OEM wire will still charge the battery and all.

no fuses and you could catch your car on fire or destroy your alternaotr of battery in the event you didnt do something right or somehow it shorts out somewhere. :)
