Good for them but with a crank that is currently prone to failure I wouldn’t expect much more unless you swap it out. It would seem that the weight issue has yet to be fixed.

well the weight isnt going to change until they make a new gen mustang i dont think, hopefully then it will get smaller.

Technically it’s being pushed by 500hp and the thing is that it wouldn't need 500hp if it didn't weigh 2 tons. The weight is negating the benefit of the power. Weight has been an issue with the Mustang since the 90’s and its only getting worse.

500hp and 4000lbs = 1:8 Power to Weight Ratio
450hp and 3600lbs = 1:8 Power to Weight Ratio

The latter would have been easily done and would have cost less in the end. The 3600lbs doesn’t just mean less weight it also means better weight distribution. This in turn would mean better handling and better braking when equipped with the same Brembo’s. In other words I would enthusiastically give up 50hp if it meant a loss of 400lbs. It is always going to be much easier to add Hp than it would be to drop that much weight from a car.

Well considering this thing was rated to run mid 11s when I saw it at the Tulsa auto show with 475 horsepower, I don't think weight will really cut down the performance that much.

I really don't care about handling or anything at all. I'm seeing this thing as a bad ass car to really raise hell at the midnight drags all around the country in a year.

Besides I wish people would shut up. So what if it weighs 4000 pounds? Where are these people when the Charger is mentioned? All I seem to hear is "boy that thing will really run now with the big HEMI in it!" When the Mustang though gets some power but adds a little weight the thing isn't going to be able to beat a Civic.

The Charger, Challenger, Mustang are all obese. The only so called “muscle car” which none of these truly are anymore that isn’t as over weight as Paul Prudhomme may be the next Camaro. Even if you are solely devoted to the 1/4mi weight is a matter of concern. The more something weighs the more effort it takes to move it.

I beleive the general rule of thumb is 100lbs = .1 seconds.

I thought it was 200lbs = .1 secs.

Anyway, you got the same "obese" Mustang being "pushed" by 500hp instead of 475, which was already more power than any Mustang before it..........

You'd have to really TRY to find a reason to complain.
