Hi, I'm new to the Nisan forum. I have an opportunity to buy a 94 Altima with low mileage from a relative. The best we can determine is that the car has sat in the garage and not been run since 2000. Any concerns with a car sitting this long and what should be done before trying to start it? I don't mind replaceing fluids, hoses, battery and the like but I don't want to put the engine and automatic trans. at risk starting it. Any advice would be great.

Thanks,
Ray

No one wants to touch this one. So far, I have removed a nest fit for a king out of the air box (underside of filter element). The flat top / shroud (plugs, oil filler) must have been the dining room, loaded with remnants of acorns. I put a capful of 5W-30 down each spark plug hole. New battery today and see if the electrics come up and turn it over without spark plugs.

Hi, Altima G

It's alive. It smokes and hopefully it will clear. Runs very strong around the neighborhood (tags expired 5.5 years ago). My main concern was NOT to destroy it after sitting so long. Now I have to get it through our state motor vehicle inspection. I changed the oil & filter and it is high on the stick. I know that I put 4 quarts in just like the owners manual said to do. Could this indicate 1/4" of sludge in the pan? I'm debating dropping some of the oil. Seals are a concern and I don't want to help them expire. I may be obssessing to much. It is running on 5.5 year old gas, my lawn mower won't run on 5.5 month old gas. I put Lucas injector cleaner and dry gas in the tank.

Any tips are more than welcome.
Thanks

Sludge build up in the oil huh ... id run the car, till it gets hot then change the oil untill it comes out clear. 4 quarts is a lil too much ... it should take 3.6 ... 4 would make it over a bit. Try some carberator cleaner to clean out the throttle body ... (Where the intake is) ... You might want to change the Fuel filter. Mmm .. that all i could think of at the moment ... let me know what happens

Thanks, the smoking has stopped. I like the fuel filter idea. My owner's manual says (just checked) 4qts with a filter. 3.6 makes sense, I drained 16 oz out and it is right at the top. Going to motor vhicle tomorrow.

Thanks for your input,
Ray
