Theftlock question, "newbie"

I have posted here once before but I am a new Astro owner, I previously inquired about the fuel pumps on these, but since getting the van I now am faced with a new problem before I can start on the fuel pump.
It is a 98 astro 4.3 auto.
after towing it to my house I noticed the battery was almost dead, after putting the charger on it I noticed all kinds of clicking under the dash, I found the guy had an after market alarm installed "cheapo" not even a name on it, and of course no fob, cool out it came, I new he had a remote door system "I had the fob for that, but since the batt was so low "I guess" the thing was just clicking away without locking/unlocking the doors, so out it came.
now Im wondering about the built in theft lock system.
I have heard that a malfunctioning or inproperly installed alarm can mess with the theft lock system and shut the electronics down, I have read that primarily it's the remote start that will mess with things, now even being a no name alarm it may still have had the remote start or somthing of this nature.
what exactly, what shouild I look for? I could really use some life experiences here.
The guy told me that it sputtered and just died, and after having his mechanic look at it the fuel pump was found to be bad, "a common thing",
before I bought it he told me as well that the alarm had been giving him problems, just wondering if the two could be related?
I'm letting the battery charge tonight and will dig in fresh tomorrow,
just hoping to get some ideas.
The remote door system seems to be a quality unit, the fob has GM and the #'s on the back, but either way I'll prob trash it.
I have tons of experience with elec, GM specificly, just nothing this new
I hope some one can give me the lowdown on the theftlock system since the haynes book said little to nothing about the system.
Thank you for any input about this.

The 98 astros use "PasslockII" look for three 18 ga wires (red/blk, yelllow, white) grouped together coming down the steering column from the ignition switch- if indeed the system was a remote start- two of the three wires would be taped- one cut (yel) the other "t'eed" into (black) if this is the case- then meerly solder the yellow ends back together- they were diverted through a relay- during remote start only- otherwise were normally closed through the relay during key start. The van will crank- run and die after about 1 sec if these wires are not connected......

Don't you just love those aftermarket POS remote and alarm systems, and the typical hack-job "professional" installations that seem to always go with them? They're a failure waiting to happen, usually after any warranty period. I swear that none of these "professional" audio and alarm system installers have ever heard of that newfangled connection method called "soldering." One of those comes in with a chassis or BCM electrical problem, and it's automatically an extra two hours of diagnostic time and $$$.

Take it off and pitch it in the trash can before it burns the astro up.
Solder any wires that have been cut and seal them back up.
The wiring is usually not to hard to figure out. Watch the color coding on it.
If any problems with wiring post back or Auto zone or bull dog alarms may have some wiring on there web sites.
Good luck
