Proper up-keep

I'm in love with my new truck (3.9litre, 5-spd, 99 dakota sport) and I want to make sure it's driving just as well when I get out of college in four years, as it is now. It's got 82,000 miles on it and I worry about expensive things like transmission problems or internal damage beyond repair. What are some good steps or common checks I can do now to prevent Tranny damage and keep my internals strong.
This is besides changing the oil and checking fluids (obvious). I heard something about greasing your clutch or transmission. Finally if there are any common problems my year truck will have coming up around 100,000 I would like to know so I can prepare, or prevent. Thanks for the help, it's much appreciated.

Yeah, I'm really paranoid, my last Dakota (91 4-spd w/ OD I4) was a piece that I got for free from my uncle, stripped down to nothing. It was a money pit just to keep running. I want to prevent that from ever happening to my truck. I'll try not to worry about it.
