Thanks to members who helped me troubleshoot a Power Steering Leak and Fix; hopefully, the following will be helpful:
93 740iL with combo power steering/hydraulic leveliing system (Pentosin 11 fluid is used). I noticed a small leak under the car, and upon inspection, noticed the fluid was running down from the top of the Power Steering Box (PS Box) on the engine side. This suggested one of the lines into the top of the PS Box was leaking.
Accessing the bottom of the box to inspect requires:
a) raise and support the vehicle front
b) removing large plastic pan fron under the engine
c) removing the metal heat shield below the PS Box; this is an odd shaped shield that is held by 10mm bolts, one of which is through the frame. Once loose, it can be completely removed.
After accessing the bottom of the PS Box, accessing the top of the PS Box requires:
1) disconnect the battery (you do not want to bump into the alternator or other 12V wires when performing this job, nor do you want to have the ignition turned on in errror as an engine mount will be disconnected
2) raise and support vehicle front
3) remove the lower two nuts holding the left engine mount
4) loosen the two lower nuts holding the right (passenger) engine mount; only loosen, do not remove.
5) Raising the engine left side using a jack and wood board under the oil pan; jack lowly as you will get to a point were item (fan) start to rub..
6) from below, remove the two bolt holding the back of the metal heat shield that is above the PS Box; there are bolted into the rear of the PS Box above where the steeing linkage enters teh box.
7) from above, remove the last bolt holding the front of this heat shield
8) with this heat shield removed, the top of the PS Box can be seen and the hose connections can be accessed. Space is very tight for much of this work, but it can be done!
9) The connection bolts are 19 and 22mm on top of the PS Box. In my case, simply tightening the 19mm stopped the leak (at least temporarily). I tightened by using a box wrench, then with a pry bar, I carefully leveraged against the engine to tighten.
10) All hoses should now be checked for tightness and wear as they are accessible.
11) I learned my left engine mount needed to be replaced as sit separated in two pieces, top and bottom.
12)Assembly is the reverse of the above.
Good Luck
