All I need next are strut tower braces... and suspension is pretty much done.

Unless I get the itch to make the big step up to coilovers.... probably not for a while.

Junk

 for most other cars... but for the Z it's a decent setup... it is after all 35 years old.

ew, what an ugly car......

Yes... yes it is.

Nice Matty...what else you got coming along next for the suspension?

Just front and rear strut tower braces... that's all that's left.

Does this have an SR20DET as well? I liked the white much better.

-The Stig-
04-30-2006, 08:07 PM
nope, it's got the stock L24 Inline 6... which is... horribly slow... not sure what's wrong with it.

The paint will change color, it'll remain blue.. but darker. It's going to be a midnight blue/almost black color. When it's all done it'll look good. Trust me. :)

What engine work is she getting though?

-The Stig-
04-30-2006, 08:35 PM
Oh... RB26... with a pair of N1 turbos.

Should be good for high 400s low 500whp on a conservative tune with California 91 octane.

All kidding aside, Rice(er), you've got no taste. You drive a four door Corolla and you call that ugly??? I'm sorry but the Datsun Zs were some of the MUCH better looking cars of their day and I think this is a damn fine looking example, at least what I CAN SEE OF IT!!! :iceslolan

It looks straight in the photo... but it needs body work and new paint... and the interior is light blue. ewwww.

It's all getting taken care of though.

Hehe, I know how you feel.

I'm not sure which is worse, your light blue or my discolored tan.

Cool. I would think the suspension will take care of any slop that an engine swaps weight would create, but I dunno.

I prefer the white color of the old one. I believe i've seen some type of front headlight covers for those cars, but i'm not too sure if it is for the 260 or the 280Z.

You will have traction issues with an RB26DETT in there, but then who cares.

-The Stig-
05-01-2006, 02:27 AM
Yeah, the light covers for the headlights can fit on any S30 Chassis Z, 1970-1978. They also make them for the S130s (1979-1983) I believe.

I'll have a healthy set of tires out back, with a not so aggressive final gear... with a beefy NISMO 2-way LSD.

Looking nice, specially for an old car. The engine bay looks pretty big, the I6 will be very happy in there.

what are you doing with the RB26? fitting an RB25 oil sump/pan and using and RB25 gearbox? they're a straight bolt-on swap.

You mean RB20DET oil pan, and RB25DET 5 speed transmission.

Although, I'll probably end up using a RB20DET 5 speed to start off with, they're easier to find, and cheaper. People covet the RB25 5 speed... nobody gets rid of them.:frown:

That's my work van yo!

Nah, I haven't. I bought the car in late November/ early December during the whole Camaro rearend deal. Since the Camaro was down for 6 weeks, by week 5 I was needing a car and didn't want to drive the work van anymore. So I found this car on craigslist.com and bought it.

Once I got the Camaro back, I stopped driving it... cause the Camaro was much nicer to drive everyday. Especially during those cold december/january/febuary days and nights. I sold the Camaro over a month ago and I'm back to driving the Z.

It's... slow... and not fun really. But I only use roughly 6.5-8 gallons of gas a week. I don't know exactly how many miles I drive, cause the odometer ...well I don't trust it and I never check it... but I'm guessing it gets 16-17mpg city. Not too bad for a 35 year old car that's out of tune.

Anywho... no race storys from me for a while.. unless of course I get it on with a UPS truck... or the ever elusive DHL van.

i dunno, i have a magazine article about a guy who put an RB26DETT in an ER34, i thought it said RB25DET oil pan, i was writing from memory.
