Hello experts...
I have an 89 CRX SI and I would like to change out the motor. What do you guys think the best motor to put in? I was thinking a GSR...what year is best that would bolt right in? Or maybe a B16, what year motor is the best to put in. Im so sorry about the noob question.

all GSR motors should fit the same.. considering they are all B18's ... but i may be wrong.
Depending on what your looking for personally I'd go with any DOHC VTEC motor ... You will become a vtec junky like the rest :icon16:

GSR is a great motor for an EF. B16's and LS's are good too, you just have to decide what route you want to take. The newer the motor the better, as far as mileage goes. It doesn't matter what year motor you get, you can swap any year motor in with the same amount of difficulty.

What type of driving do you do?
For the actual motor, whatever has the least miles/newer, but try to stick to OBDI or OBD0 wiring.

Price is also a big issue. A complete first gen B16 will run you just over 2000 where a GSR is a bit pricier like about 3500+. The B16a should also be an easier swap than the GSR and the tranny is also cable, meaning you wont have to buy a hydro conversion for like 400+ bucks. The B16 is pretty torqueless which is one of its downsides. It all depends on budget and personal preference. I would personally choose a fully built B20 VTEC to enjoy both hefty amounts of torque and top-end power, but its up to you.

You can build a reliable lsvtec complete swap for under 2000, it's just people are too lazy and don't want to get there hands dirty.

but then again you dont have to go big if you want something cheap and easy go for the d16z6(stock 92-95 civic si/ex motor) or if you want to go big just pick a vtec b series motor and you will be good and fast but with less cash in your wallet and more frustration in the install. im assuming that you havent swapped before? but if you have b series is definetly the way to go. wether its built ls turbo or all motor type-r you are good to go with a b.

Yeah..nobody has even mentioned it yet, but if you want the best (possibly short of a b20/vtec) then the b18c5 is the mack daddy..comes from the integra type r and boy do I want one of those!

my buddy has a type r and that thing flys! I wish i could throw that engine in my car. If money is a big deal with you like it is me, then id go with this swap if youre not near any junkyards. I'm puttin the b16a1 into mine here within a few weeks. I got the whole swap for 2000 shipped online from cali. they even including a cd with the guide to do it. Got a header comin from florida too so they should be here about the same time.

I bought it swapped, then proceeded to reverse engineer the wheel with it..I should have done it myself, rather than doing it slowly, part by broken, miswired, and just fed up part...
