I got a 1993 Mercury Tracer LTS (same thing as a 93' Escort)
I was wondering what I can do to my car to make it faster and have more horsepower than the 127hp it has (i think). What type of engines can i swap it with? Can the stock engine be turbo'd? What parts will I need?

Please help.

I think a LTS is like a Escort GT. Not just an average Escort.

You right, LTS is GT i believe.

Are there any actual performance parts for any Tracers or Escorts? I've search so mcuh all I could find is filters, spark plugs..all that usless stuff that doesnt gain hp at all or barely...

im thinking of saving my money for a 95-97 eclipse (gs-gsx-gst..any)

:-\

cuz i gotta get new tires..my pirelli tire in the front left have like 0 life left...lol..the paint or what ever it is between the windows and the dorrs (that black stripping) is chipping off, need new brakes...there is just so much for me to fix on it :-\

what to do...?

I own a 95 escort LX 1.9 and wanted to know if i Could swap a 1.8 Bpt turbo in it. People say to do the 2.0 SPI swap but that engine sux too. I Know u got to chance the ECU,But the motors are the same i think? if Yall could help me out

For someone who has an LX- I think that the 2.0 swap is easier, because it's basically a direct bolt on when you keep various parts from the 1.9 liter engine.. I can't remmeber what parts of the engine you have to keep, but it's out there.. I think it's at FEOA.net in the How-To's, but I'm not sure.
Swapping a LX to a GT engine takes alot of time and work, and from what I hear it's a real pain.

You say the SPI sux's to, but yet my SPI is making more power then the average GTX swapped Escort. The SPI swap for a LX is a lot eayer and can be cheaper to, so exsplain that one to me.:shakehead

so u sayin a 120hp spi is makin more power than a 1.8 gtr 180hp or 220 gtx.U forced induced or all motor cuz id rather go through all the trouble of swappin the ecu harness and all that shit.

My completely stock 1.9 short block is making 212whp and 262ftlbs at the wheels. That was with stock 1-7/8" Exsahst. At the crank thats about 300ft lbs of tourq.
It's turbo'd.

Really? If i get numbers like thatout of 1.9 shit im stayin.. so t3/t4 turbo whats the deal> I know its a custom turbo kit.. If u can give me the recipe or hook it up with a kit man,,thatll be cool man.. I added INtake and full exhaust, all the bolt ons to my 1.9 and im not satisfied at all man.no power

you 'could' swap in a zetec and turbo it.

I've allready been down that road. I'd rather turbo the SOHC than go though the trouble of swapping to the Zetec. The Zetec has better head flow, but when it comes to a boosted SOHC vs Zetec it's easy and practicly free just to bump the boost up a psi to make up for it, lot cheaper to buy a boost controller then it is a Zetec motor swap. Plus the lower compression and cheap replacement cost of the SOHC motor is a good thing.

Who said any thing about a T3/T4?
Bolt on parts are ghey, it's a quick way to waste a lot of money and time for very little power in return. The only thing that will really help you is large exshaust when turbo'd.

Are you comparing boosted SOHC vs boosted zetec? If you;re comparing boosted sohc vs n/a zetec of course it will make more power.. boost the zetec and that's a different story.

I know it prolly isn't the most 'cost effective' swap. I was just stating an idea.. since he asked what motors you could swap in tere.

I would rather boost a SOHC then swap to a Zetec than boost it, here are a few reason's: It would be cheaper. Your over all power output will be very simular. Like I said, the Zetec head flow's better, but just bump the boost up a psi or 2 on the SOHC and you've made up the difference. The SOHC has lower compression, makes things easyer for boosting, you can run more timing and less octane. The rings are set a little looser in the SOHC, bad for making N/A power but does better when things get hot. The short blocks in the SOHC are just as stong, in fact the main caps are smaller in the Zetec.

A zetec swap is'nt really needed to go fast. If some one wants a N/A motor only, then the Zetec would be the better way to go. But if it's gonna be turbo'd, might as well stick with the SOHC.

If u didnt know? t3/t4 is a type of turbo its not a bolt on product. I know the basics of turbo installs but dont really know the plumbing,, IF u could help me out thatll be tight.
