Possibly turbo Gallant Kill

So I've been kinda gone lately, being drunk and all, so drunk that I broke my keybored...hmmm...

Anyways, yesterday Iw as out with the girlfriend in Como, running some errands, getting a new keybored, went to the mall, shit like that. I noticed that yesterday it was like ricerers are us out en massé, so I decide to hit up the loop to see if I can get a kill. While we were busy lauging at this ugly ass S10 with like, 20+inch gold uber spoke wheels, I hear the familar sound of an exhaust, and due a little of Transporteresqe driving to get around traffic to see what looks like a beat to hell Gallant, badged an ES, with what I think is a fart can. However, it sounds a little to nice to be a fart can, and it is actually idling kinda loud. So we work our way around traffic, and I pace him a bit, but we are comming up on a red light, so we start to slow.

We were rolling up, light was still red, going just under like, five, when it turns green. Guy in the Gallant punches it, and so do I. In first, his nose is up on me a bit, then I hit second, and pull hard up, putting his nose at my door quickly, then slowly pulling out to about three lengths and letting off. He jumps into a side lane, one that ends, in order to do a ricer fly by, but I pnch it and walk off a bit again.

Now heres the thing. He was idling loud, he was kinda quick in first...and when we were actually racing, I heard him shift. When he shifted, I heard a definate BOV. It wasnt a gear grind, or his wheels slipping, it was, without a doubt, the same sound made when venting. Now, I know that some cars have those fake speaker BOVs, so it might of been one of these, or as I think, he was boosted, just not running a ton of boost or running strong. It wasn't a VR4, at least it wasn't badged as one, it may have had the swapped engine...

Anyways, another kill for me.

Well if it was a VR-4 it would of been old looking cause the last VR-4 I believe came out in 92. the mid 90s body galant ES has the same 4-cyl as the second gen Eclipse. it wouldnt be hard to drop the turbo from the GST into that car.
good kill.

Thats why I was thinking possibly a rebadged VR4, it was the early 90s body style...

that would of been AWD, in which case mad props, a modestly tuned Galant VR-4 can make up to 260 hp. they came with like 240 stock.
excellent run bro.

Doubtful that it was a VR4 Galant, it would've murdered you from a dig. They are all wheel drive. I guess maybe if the guy didn't know how to drive, but my guess is it wasn't a VR4, cause they are extremely rare.

Nice kill anyways.

This is what a Galant VR4 looks like:

It was that body style. I don't think it was a VR4, I just think it was boosted. Maybe a 4G63 Swap with no mods whatsoever? And we didn't go from a dig...well...not really. Like I said, he held with me till about 30ish then I started pulling on him.

Good run!! galants can be quick ;) , but just so rumors don't get started, here is my speel on "galants" and their potential.

Actually i just testdrove a Galant GSX (Galant only has one "L" unlike the race horse Gallant Fox which has 2) the Galant GSX looks kinda like what you see above, same color and everything. The wheels were dif. and there was no chrome trim.

AND NOBODY TELL ME A GALANT GSX DOESN'T EXIST because YOU WOULD BE POORLY MISTAKEN!!

anyways, everytime you shifted the car (put the clutch in) it gave a light rubbing noise, similar to that of air passing through a blow off valve. something like a "woosh"

I was told this could be associated by a failing clutch cylinder/master cylinder/ whatever controls the pressure for the clutch.

ALSO the galants w/ the 4g63n/t engine could be boosted to 8psi fairly easily w/ parts taken from a 1g turbo car. Not only that, but they were fairly heavy in comparison to the eclipses. note, they would be limited to 8psi because if they did more any amount of knock would destroy the engine. with the added weight, i can't see them being any faster than mid-high15's which would be perfectly feasible for the cassie man to have beaten.

Contrary to popular belief Galant VR-4's from 1991-1992 did not have large amounts of hp. They had a stock 190 crank hp with a small increase available w/ a 3psi increase in boost using an MBC. 260 is attainable with mods, but not easily without a fair amount of upgrades. (intercooler, hard pipes, 2.5 turbo-back, mbc @ 15psi , ported 14b turbo

I don't think any galants came w/ the 420a 2nd gen eclipse motor. That was the motor they put in neons. A fair portion of galants came w/ the 4g64 which was the 4g63's 2.4l big brother, but it only came w/ sohc. The 4g64 was available in the spyder from 1996-1999 and in every 4cyl. eclipse from 2000-2005. The new eclipses have the 4g69 i believe w/ mivec power yo'

on the 3rd gen eclipse 4cyl's you could bolt up a 14 b turbo setup off a 1g eclipse and make approx. 190whp. So i highly doubt it was a 4g64 and with it being older that makes it even more unlikely.

Also note that it can only look like that galant and be an ES if it was a 1993 model, the ES was not an available trim level before 1993, so it is almost certainly a 2.0l 4g63 dohc n/t

cliff notes,

if it looked like the white car above, it was most certainly a 1993, and not a GVR4

If it was turbo'd anyways, it would not have enough power on a stock engine to have beaten cassies man

It may have been a clutch slave cylinder going out making the noise when he shifted

I kno way too much about galants not to own one now... great... :uhoh:

Theres no such thing as a Galant GSX!
j/k
I thought the 4 cyl was the 420a, I rented one a few years ago in L.A. and it was a 4 cyl identical to my wife's eclipse....I could be wrong though and maybe the 2.4 just looks the same from above.

oh and that was one long ass post chico......hablas mucho cabron! :p

The only way you're gonna be running 12's in the bloated pig that is the 3G (and I own one, so I can say that) is to boost the shit out of it. Also, at the amount of boost needed to run 12's, you better have a built motor.
