My 95 atx Sl dosnt seem to want to idol correctly. Every now in thin after I drive it for a while (10 min) it stops idoling and dies, sometimes it seems to idle around 1k RPM other times it may be 1.5k RPM or even 500RPM. Any ideas what the problem is?

Alternator?

check to see if ur mass air flow sensor in plugged in. if its not it causes rough idle an can cause the car to die after a few minutes of operation. i dont think it would be the altenator unless ur votage is going up an down. but i would also check to see if there are any loose vacuum hoses.

I don't think it would be the MAF, mainly because he says that he can still drive the car. You would notice IMMEDIATELY if your MAF wasn't plugged in because the car would be jerking and your idle would be all over the place.

on second thought, a bad TPS shouldnt make it stall, so scratch that.

not neccesarily true. I forgot to plug mine in after putting my FIPK on. It idled steady but low on startup...1100-1200 vs 1400-1500 where it usually sits on cold start...and it stalled when it warmed up(after driving it around the block). Also, it gave me a CEL.
I would say double check the MAS. If its plugged in, use an ohmmeter to make sure its not broken. They are pretty delicate.

Hmm thats weird. When mine came unplugged(I was blocking off the resonator) I tried to start it, and immetiately it turned over and stalled. I tried again, giving it more gas as I started it up, and it still stalled. O.o

i dunno man. could just be differences in the ECUs? or possibley just n/a vs turbo?
either way, wouldnt hurt to check it out.

unplugged MAS should cause it to stall. If it didn't for you, then your idle is probably set too high.
As far as teh original problem, you are going to have to be more specific then that.
Does the idle fluctuation, regardless of temperature?
What does it idle at when cold; what about when warm?
What's the mileage?
What has been serviced recently?

It does this no matter the temperature. When It wants to die i just have to have my foot on the peddle a little bit to stop it from going dead. Its has 98k miles on it and i'm not shure how long since a check up. it hasnt been that long tho. I did have a drunk driver hit me a couple of weeks ago. It didnt do major damage just messed up the passenger side finder. That could have set something lose? Also every since then every now and then i hear a weard sound coming from the back of my car. I kinda sounds like something is dragging but nothing is, and its only when i accelerate, once i let of the gas the sounds stops. It dosnt happen much. Any ideas on that and the ideling problem would be great.
Thanks

Idling, I'd check the IAC, as mentioned above
The dragging sound, could be wheel bearings.?.or bent suspension components.

IAC is a possibility, you can try cleaning it up with some brake parts cleaner on non-electrical components of the IAC, and see if that helps. Here's a link that can help you http://www.stealth316.com/2-isc-iac.htm
also, i would check for some vacuum leaks, that could do it as well.

I'd start with the IAC too.

Did you ever find out what was the problem with your idoling fluctuation, cause my 1990 Ford Capri is doing the exact same thing and three mechanics have not been able to find out why. I have had the vacuum hose checked. I have no idea about cars so if someone could explain what an IAC is please then I will have that checked. On start up the Capri idols perfectly on 1000 RPMs and then after about 10 minutes it idols at traffic lights below 500 RPM and then dies if I don't put my foot on the excelerator. It is a manual car so I can juggle the excelerator and clutch, but I would prefer not to. Any answers please?
