This may be a stupid question, but is there a certain type of power steering fluid for a 99 Grand am gt or is one fluid as good as the next (not talking brand). The reason I ask is b/c the cap says to "use approved fluid only" so I wasn't sure if there was a certain type.
Thanks for the help

Use only power steering fluid. Years ago they used a lot of transmission fluid in power steering, now they use specialized fluid so stick with that for best results. That is what they mean by approved fluid.

Well technically they mean the over priced crap that they carry at the dealership but your close enough...as GTP Dad said don't stick anything other than power steering fluid in there, this may too crazy to be true but I've seen people stick all kinds of wrong fluid in all the fluid reservoirs on a car (power steering fluid in the brake reservoir, coolant in the windshield wiper reservoir, oil in the radiator, etc etc), even seen auto parts store employees suggesting the wrong stuff (gear oil for a hydraulic clutch)...You can actually get away with having the wrong fluid but in time something will fail/break.
