i would like to tint the windows of my 97 wagon a pretty dark tint. two questions:
1) how much cooler might this keep the car? (im in vegas right now, with all my stuff in the car, and it gets HOT in the daytime.)
2) if i want to resell the car, how will this affect the price? do buyers generally not care? pay more? pay less?
thanks,
anthony

I'm pretty sure it makes your car a lot hotter.
But people prefer it.. I dont think it decreases the value.

Go to a tint shop and have them demonstrate the difference.
Tinting my living room windows made a noticeable difference. The room stayed cooler during the day, and I don't have A/C in the house.

Maybe it depends on the % of darkness..
Cause like, mine are pretty dark, and if the light is attracted to black, then more rays go into my car, thus making it warmer.. I know my car is a lot warmer all the time then a car with no tint is.

I'm surprised to hear that. The DIY tint stuff in all the parts places
claim internal temp reducation stats. I didn't know if it woudl reduce
temps the claimed ~30% (or whatever, i cant remember) but i am
surprised to hear you say it makes your car *warmer*.
btw, black does not 'attract' light.
i imagine with a tint, the actual surface temp of the glass gets a lot
hotter than it woudl without the tint, but as a tradeoff you get shade
inside the car. i had been under the impression it was a good
tradeoff.
oh well. i guess what i need is a reflective coat, not a tint.

I have tinted the windows of my car because it does not have AC. I find that it does make it a bit cooler inside because of the "shading" affect. It is like the same concept of standing in the shade on a hot day - it is cooler in the shade than in the beaming hot sun.
Personally, I prefer tinted windows for 2 reasons:
keeps my car cooler
and
it also makes it harder to see inside.
Myself, if there were two identical cars for sale - one with tinted windows and one without... I would buy the one with tinted windows - IF it was done properly. So I would recommend that if you do decide to tint, have it done professionally. I have seen some terrible home tints, and I know from experience how hard it is to remove tint from windows.
Good luck and have a great day!
