Programing the Garage Door on the visor

Does anyone know how to program the garage door opener to the visor on a 96 sebring jxi convert? I've tried holding the first and last button till the light blinked to earse the codes. Then I held the first button, pressed the remote, and held the wall unit open/closer down till the light blinked, and its still not working. Is there something wrong with my wire or am I just not programing it correctly?
