92 Regal 4t60 / 4t60e swap

I have a 92 Buick Regal Custom with a bad 3800 engine and 4t60 transmission. I have purchased a low mileage 92 Lesabre 3800 with a rebuilt 4t60e transmission. I know I need the ecm and wiring harness from the Lesabre and probally the axels as well. My question is what mounts do I use? The tranny mounts on the 4t60e look to bolt on the same way but the overall length of the transmission is a bit longer than the 4t60. The regal and Lesabre use different mounts. If anyone has ever done this swap, please contact me with any helpful information. Thankyou!

I am pretty sure they both have 4t60e transmissions, compare the rpo codes for the same nunbers, final drive ratios may be different.

Nope, I have them both out and on a table, you can see they are very much alike but they are different. The 92 Regal has a 4T60 and the one I have attached to the good 3800 engine is a 4T60E. They both have the vacumme modulator on the side but the replacement one is for certain a 4T60E. These numbers are also stamped on the bottom of the pans as well.

Must be a super early 92. Does the old one have a kickdown cable?

Yes, both have Kick down cables. I also have found out the the tranny mounts from the 4T60 do not fit the 4T60E. The back (Pan) bracket may work but would have to be modified to allow the tranny lines to pass thru it. The right front trans mount (On right side tail shaft by engine oil filter) is not even close to bolting on. The holes would need to be much further apart than they currently are on the mount. I'll try to post pictures later today.

4T60E's shouldn't have a kickdown cable the old 440's (4T60) did.

Yes the 4T60 and the 4T60E both have kickdown cables. The 4T60 has one that goes directly into the top of the case by the rear pan. The 4T60E has one that runs to a vacumme canister on a bracket ontop of the pan. I'm going to include a picture. The tranny on the left is the 4T60. The one on the right is the 4T60E. I also get a measurement on the 4T60E that the case is 2 and 1/4 inches longer so I'll need the LeSabre axels I would think. Still unsure of the mounts. I may also have to get a LeSabre shift cable. Anyone having any info on this swap, please share, thanks!

The vacuum canister is your cruise control.

Update: As there has been no helpful responses and in the hopes of helping someone else that may attempt this someday, I can tell you the following:
You'll need the right rear engine / tranny mount from the Lesabre. The left tranny mount works just fine. You'll also need to use the right front axel from a Lesabre but you'll have to use the outside (strut end) Regal CV joint and boot as the Lesabre end does not work with the Regal hub. The old left front regal axel works fine

You'll also need to use the oil pump / filter adapter from the Regal. The Lesabre one will locate your filter directly inside the front frame of the Regal
Water pumps are plumbed a little different, you'll need to change pumps or adapt the heater hoses to route them correctly.
You'll have to relocate the cruise control of the Lesabre engine. It's in the way of the Regal master cylinder in it's stock mounting location.
There may be other Little minor tweaks I've forgotten about but nothing needing more than a few minutes to correct / change.

I now have it all bolted up and sitting on all 4 wheels again. I have the wiring harness removed from the firewall to the engine / transmission including the ECM and the underhood electrical fuse box. Next step is to find a complete engine wiring harness from a Lesabre and go from there.

Dang you been busy! good luck I hope you get er going again. Swaping newer engines and trans is a lot of work.

Project is stalled. The computers that control the engine / transmission from those years for the 4t60e are mounted in the dash and not on the fender wall as the 4t60 is. Wiring harness is completly different. I have a computer and it's plugs from a 92 Olds 88 with the 4t60e tranny but lack the skill / knowledge on how to marry it to the old wiring harness.
