Speedometer Question

I drive a 96 Taurus G and recently put in an aftermarket radio, which glows blue. I'd like to replace the bulbs in the speedometer to match the radio in blue as well. I was wondering how many do I need, and if anyone knows what size ratchet to use to open the speedometer up?

I cannot help you on the number of bulbs needed to change over the instrument cluster bulb color, but you should not need to open the speedometer to change the backlighting. The backlighting should be independent of the speedo.

Do you also plan to change the backlighting of the window and lock switches as well? Those use LEDs.

No, I just plan to change the backlighting of the speedometer and was wondering how to do so.

You will need to remove the instrument cluster to change the bulbs. autozone.com may have the info as to how to remove the cluster. I have Fords instructions, but it would take up a lot of space to post them here. It is not that hard to do. Basicly, remove the trim around instrument cluster, remove the screws that hold cluster in. (either 7mm or 1/4 inch) Be sure to disconnect the gear indicator or you may break the little string. There are up to 10 bulbs in the cluster. Dependant on what you want to change. More than likely you will only need 3 or 4. Just watch closely as it comes apart.
