Tranny Slams into gear when cold

Hi. Any hints for an 89' Honda Civic DX automatic transmission that slams into gear when cold? It happens in both forward and reverse, and then lessens in impact when the weather warms up. I was thinking about a power flush, but if anyone else has any suggestions I am all ears. Thanks

I had a problem with an auto that has high cold idle, whenever the engine is idling high there is supposed to be something that compensates and doesn't kick in the gear as if you're pressing the gas, does it jump if you're in park and shift to drive? It has something to do with the high idle I believe but I'm not sure what.

Would make sense...The car idles high when cold, and its not supposed to go into gear at those speeds...

Get a tranny fluid flush/change. See if that helps.

Ditto.

Usually it's one of 3 things that all auto tranny problems are related to.
1. old fluid/wrong fluid
2. torque converter bad
3. shifter cables need adjusting

Torque conver is a definate possibility..Never even thought of it, too used to manuals. The stall rpm could be messed up on it, likely from the fluid in it, that would cause it to suddenly jerk, seemingly into gear. I second the fluid flush.
