Alas it appear that good fortune has smiled upon my z's demonic possesion the causes it to run whenever it feels. I hooked the fuel pressure gauge up AGAIN for the hundreth time and on one run, 40 psi, come back, fire it up, 30, come back fire it 20. This is the upmost strangest pump failure I've ever encountered. But the shoe fits, so looks like I've got plans for the weekend made out for me, urrrg :wtf:

Tell me about it, over the phone, problem found, on line, problem found, in front of my own blind ass overlooking the obvious, useless.
I've just NEVER seen em die like this, they either work or they don't that's what screwed me in over, so in the haste of things I'd put the gauge on, boom 40 psi, rip the gauge off and go hunt for rabbits elsewhere and drive myself batty.

Good luck!!!
I love my pressure gauge. Right around 61 PSI at idle. As soon as you hit the loud pedal....down to 53 PSI or so. Almost instant. Kinda cool...except that tells me I am maxing out my pump.
So my new high flow pump gets installed next weekend.

haha well isnt it f'in nice to atleast know you found the problem now?.... this is bringing back memories of my pump change... favorite part had to be when the tank fell out and nailed me in the chest with about 4 gallons left in it... so much for it being "lodged up in there and needing a prybar" lol....

The worst mechanical thing to ever happen to me , that nearly cause me to piss blood cause I was so pissed. Was stupid faulty fuel injector harness clips that were bent a little and not holding two injectors on tight. So every few rotations they would not fire and this took me way way way way too long to figure out.
PS- Fuel pump change super sucked for me as well.

305's are capable of ALOT. There are some tircks that you can boost power massively, and most cost barely anything. My old carbed 305 'maro, would beat the snot out of my cousin's carbed 350 Z28. And now (when it ran) my TPI 305 kills my bro-iin-laws 350 GTA. And that's without the definative mod that cost the price of a gasket.
BTW, way to jack a thread guys  j/k

Oh, yes i have, my father in law at the time well pushed 275. Anyway, My old 'maro's starter bolt (the LONG one)broke off in the engine block and needed to be chased out. So he was bored came over and lent a hand, we took turns turning the bastard out 1/8 turn at a time (sucks royally).
So it was his turn and i'm just sitting there and hear this creaking. Figured it was the pos garage in the wind. Then it comes again, except more with a metalic scraping tone. now i may be going blind, but my ears more than make up for it (a feature my kids have come to hate) and I knew it was from under the car. So it got deeper and told him "MOVE!" I have never seen him move so fast (with the exception of when he decided to evict a wasps nest  ). As soon as he just got clear, WHAM!!! the car toppled over the jackstand straight to the floor, and the hood prop (broomhandle) shot through the sidewall of the garage right over our heads. I don't know what it is about 3rdgens, they spend enough time on jackstands  and yet hate staying on them :dunno:

Know what you mean, I spent a December saving up money for a house and Christmas presents doing side jobs every weekend. In one weekend I did 3 heater cores. Anyway during one of em, I made the dumbass mistake of rubbing the sweat off my forehead with my shirt sleeve, which just so happened to have fiberglass from the dashpanel insulation on it. Within a week my eye nearly swolen shut. Had to go around like that until April becase the stupid f'n Dr. Numbnuts thought it was a stye. Finally requested a new Dr. and wouldn't you know he immediatily knew something was embedded in my eyelid.
I tell you what, I will go through 5 root canals all at one time vs. that operation ever again.

So, after some thought on the matter, I think the plan is to park it. Mostly due to rising gas prices and there's no sense in dropping the tank now, replacing the pump, drving it somemore and let it's skin cancer (rust) get worse, to have to tear it all apart again to restore everything else.
Thus, it's time to clean out the garage, get the shitbox (chevette) tittled and tagged, and pray I have aenough room for the AMC to chill, otherwise find it an apartment to rent (or drive IT :D ). Wife plans on not starting anymore major house projects for the duration of the summer :bs: It always starts small honey :shakehead . And hopefully I'll be able to bag all the parts I need, oooh, that reminds me, swap meet this weekend
