Hiya -
So, I am fed up with the horrible sound quality of my Serius system (it is the FM transmitter type). Unfortately I have been told that there is no way to hard wire it into my 2000 Silverado. Guess I gotta get a new radio. it is my understanding that our radios are din and a half. So, is it possible to install a normal single din radio, and an EQ under it? If so, do you guys have any reccomendations on a good passive EQ?
Thanks!!!

a eq will do you no good unless you are running amps and if you buy most newer amps you wont need a eq the crossovers have plenty of control and what sirius system do you have? are you using a wired modulator or the wireless one that is built in?

If you have the sat. radio that actually broadcasts an fm signal through a built in transmitter, then that is your problem. You need to get an fm modulator that taps in between your antenna cable. You would just tune your radio to a specific channel and it will play on that channel and it is an actual wired feed not just a signal through the air. It works like an aftermarket cd changer would. Of course the best way would be to get an aftermarket head unit with xm or sattelite built in, but the fm modulators are not bad at all soundwise. Just an option to replacing your headunit. Some people really don't like messing with the factory look.

I have to disagree with you on this one. Do a search on Ebay or Froogle.com for a GM9-Aux. It is a device that allows input through your stock cd/radio's 9 pin adaptor. It is the best option for this year of truck. I believe it also works on 01 models too. Read the specs though, it is made by P.I.E., I believe. Much of this working will be which Sirius receiver you have. Does your Sirius tuner have a Aux output port on the back of it?
I have a Sir-pnp3 and used the GM9-Aux for the same reasons, transmittor doesn't always work the best. This devices works awesome. I then hardwired the power to the switched on line of my truck so I don't have to remember to turn it off all the time, which I would highly suggest you do as well being that you will need to take your radio out anyway.

Wow - Thanks a million. The stereo place (Circuit City) did some checking. Yes, they do make the kit that hits the antenna wire, but they were unable to locate anything else that would work. The radios I am looking at have an input either on the face or behind that allows them to hard wire the unit (sorry - I dont have the model number handy).
My reason for the eq was two fold - obviously to adjust the tone, and to fill up the space - I am not a big fan of the look of the adapters. The adapter for my truck doesnt even have the small shelf under it - it centers the radio and really looks aftermarket. If it is going to look that way anyway, I would at least like it to look a tad high end. I am like a raccoon - shiny things that light up get my attention....
Either way, thanks for the ideas, I will do some more looking on my own.
Very appreciated!

Like I said, do a search on Froogle or Ebay for the GM9-Aux. IMO, this is the easiest method to use and creates the best sound quality since it is playing directly through your original radio. Therefore, you won't need to purchase a different deck. Don't go through Circuit City either, they probably don't know about the GM9-Aux so they don't offer it. I think you can buy it for around $60 shipped. It takes like 10 minutes to install. When you have it hooked up, all you have to do is push the CD/Aux button on your stock radio and it plays it directly. That is it, quite simple.
