Many Electrical Problems! HELP!

Where do I begin...?
First I recently purchased what seems to be a very very good condition 1993 Lincoln Town Car Cartier. It was owned by two old folks who took the best of care in it's maitenance. When I test drove it, it drove, looked, smelled new.

Anyway-
3 hours after starting to drive it the following problems appeared (which simply did no exist during test drives)
-3 of 4 windows will not roll down. (all rolled down before). I can hear the motors whirring, but they aren't moving up or down.
-The radio (the jbl premier system or whatever came with it) was going in and out of power.
-The trunk will not close all the way (it closes, but the electronic pull down thingy that makes it completely closed and flush with the rest of the car is not working)
-The antilock brakes emblem is going on and off. (I think this just stopped completely today)
-The left brake light won't work.
-When I have the head lights on at night, the back lights aren't on.

All of these things happened in one day.
I went to replace the stereo (with a very nice touchscreen nav/dvd etc system) and when I turn it on, I get power on the display, but no sound at all! :(

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just a wild guess but if all these things more or less started at the same time, I'd say there is a computer that has something shorted. The windows could be either not enough juice getting to the motor to pull the weight of the glass or the motors need some new parts. There are some plastic things, not sure what they are called, that wear out so they don't grip the window very well. Changes in temperature and humidity could change how well they grab as well. My suggestion, trade it for a 70s or 60s car with no computers!! LOL

with the window motors, the regulators are what normally go wrong with these cars. thats what sounds like your problem is with the windows.

usually with the JBL sound system, its the amp that goes bad. sometimes the wires get loose and corroded. also, the head units are not the best as they get older.

your pull down motor has gone bad for the trunk. if you can, try and get the pull down lever to go all the way down, then unplug the motor. then, the trunk will be fully shut....unless you want to replace the motor which is not all that cheap.

if the anti-lock brake emblem keeps going on and off, it is usually the quick connect plug on the ABS unit connected to the brake master cylinder that is moving around or loose.

with the left brake light, is the bulb bad or when your replace the bulb does the light keep blowing out?

and finally, when your headlights are one and night and your rear lights dont go on, that is a fuse.

hope all this helps.

Thanks so much for the help everyone.
My only question now is in reference to the stereo.

I have my aftermarket deck, and aftermarket wiring harness...
I've hooked everything up, and to the best of my knowledge (which isn't too much) I've hooked it up correctly. I get power to the deck, radio signal etc. What I'm NOT getting is sound from the speakers.

I'm sure this has something to do with the factory amp- but I'm not sure how to bypass it. I thought the aftermarket harness I'm using did that for me! :(

yea i think it has something to do with the antenna. you have to by-pass the connection to the antenna that plugs into the amp and run the wire all the way up to the front of the car and into the back of your aftermarket head unit. its a pain in the ass to do, but i even took it to best buy and circuit city and they said thats what you have to do. because technically the radio IS the amp in the trunk of the car. where the controls to the radio is only the head unit and NOT the radio itself. i think it has something to do with because the antenna is in teh back of the car and not the front. so the amp which is basically your radio also is in the truck because that is where the antenna is. its very confusing.

Hmmm, I'm not sure I understand that post. I have the antenna connection- and my deck shows that I'm getting FM and AM signal. I'm no audio whiz, but I don't see how the radio antenna has anything to do with whether or not I'm getting sound out to the speakers.
I tried testing it with a CD and a DVD as well- no sound either way.

I appreciate the help though. Any more specific information would be great. Does anyone know if the amp is in the front or the back of the car (for models with the JBL premium sound system) I don't think it's in the front, maybe it's in the rear deck?

actually, I'm sorry I reread your post and I understand what you're talking about now. That's all very confusing :) I'll see what I can do to figure this out!

yea see i tried that on my town car and i gave up because the way i was told to do it was really confusing. so i just went off ebay and got the stronger JBL head unit and i just used a tape adapter and hook it up to my discman haha
