dpfi vs mpfi

boy as if there isn't enough questions and info about the swap out there...... my question tho is will i sacrifice mpg doing the swap? i wouldn't think so because if you are shooting the same air/fuel ratio you wont drop, and since the mpfi has 4 injectors it is more precise in the injection process versus the 2 injectors. alot of you have done the swap and i am wondering your experience with your mpg gain/loss

Yes you will sacrifice some mpg but it'll no longer take you 30 seconds to get to 60mph either. The dpfi is primarily one main fuel injector with a back up that adds extra fuel during higher rpms. The mpfi is like you said a fuel injection system.

The reason why you want to do an mpfi swap is to increase power. Generally, increasing power = losing MPG.
Seriously, you drive a 4 cylinder honda. There are plenty of turbo hondas that still get 25-30 mpg. So no matter what, you will still be getting good gas mileage.

yep i know i would still get great mpg, but i am not like a lot of u guys that are going strictly for horse power numbers. i am going for mpg numbers. i was curently thinking about a mpfi swap with the vtec-e head or would i be able to keep the dpfi?

dont worry you will still be way up there for the mpg. so its no big deal

I know the HF,VX, CX, and HX use MPFI. It's possible to get better MPG with the MPFI manifold because the DPFI manifold makes a right angle turn, which probably causes the air to tumble and reduces low-throttle port velocity(best fuel economy=efficiency at part throttle/low rpm).

For the DPFI vs. MPFI, economy-wise, it depends on which manifold you use. The DPFI(B2) manifold has small runners compared to my D15B-VTEC manifold(pretty much a Z6 manifold).

The A6, Z6, and Y8 have the largest of the bunch. If you get a B6(HF), B7(EG DX), B8(CX) or Z1(VX/HX) manifold/map it shouldn't really effect the MPG too much. The B6 and B8 are the 8-valve engines IIRC; those would get better MPG than the D15B2 to begin with.

The DPFI is nothing of a true fuel injection, but it does have one primary fuel injector. It is basically just a souped up Carburator, thats all. MPFI is true fuel sequential injection as it has 4 injectors. You probably will lose some mpg but in turn you are gaining a better power band and more precious engine running. It also depends on what else is on the car. You could always throw the std 4spd or hf's 5spd on there and get a good mpg car with the added value of 4 injectors. But then again you could always get the hf model and just do some upgrading to run it off the si ecu. Either way, dpfi is not the way to go unless you want good ol mpg gains.

so i have a b6 motor and the whole wire harness. would that intake manny boost power over my currrent dpfi setup?
