duu brooo.... depends on the tuning, depends on the driver, depends on the quality/time/effort they put in the project, depends on what the cars gonna do. Too much damn factors, theres your answer

CountryBoy Racer

like ok i have a rb20 right now and i got a nice free flow exhaust on it but ive been hearing that it would be a better use of money to just get an rb25

Personally I'd go with the rb (love the sound of an rb engine at wot), the sr is a very good engine don't get me wrong. But there are alot of people with sr's and not much with an rb powered 240sx, it's gonna be an expensive project though.

Yeah i heard. so um what do you think? 2500 for the engine in good condition or am i dreaming

It'll be worth it if you have the cash to buy/install/maintain an rb into a 240sx, if you do go for it

sr20. sure the rb2 can make more power but its also heavier makes the handling way whack and is more expensive to swap in and upkeep. my thing is yea everyone says how much more power the rb's can make and yes they are right that is obvious but in reality who really makes more then 400 on a street driven daily driver which is what everyone in here is going to be doing. and i can also make 400 in a sr pretty easy and have better handling. without as much hassle. thats my stance on it.
if i was going for a horse power monster for a drag car then id use the rb.

alright well looks like i got a whole lot more research to do. by the way what do yall have in yalls cars

i have a sr20 and also have friends who have and have riden in 240's w/ ka-t, rb25, and rb26. and know how much money is involved in each and i know what im looking for as far as what i want from my car and what i want to do in it.
im close to tied w/ ka-t and sr for first. in my book for my needs. what a lot of you dont realize is that the rb,although a sick engine, is more then you will ever need and you are basically paying a shit load more money just for its potential. so spend your extra money on power you will nev er unleash because that makes sense

i dont know dude the rb25 has alot of advantages and the only disadvantage i can come up with is the weight well and the money. but hey money isnt really all that much of a problem.

SidewayzS13 said it well and I agree, it's all about pros and cons. What is it you want out of your car? I looked into this question a lot before getting my S14 Blacktop SR20DET. I wanted a fun daily driver with a turbo. Price was a big one. It ended up being almost the same price to rebuild my tired 95' KA the way I wanted or buy the S14 front clip. Also, reliability, availability of parts and upkeep pricing pretty much killed the RB choice for me. Something breaks on an RB... it sits for at least a week or maybe longer till you get parts. So I came to the conclusion S14 chasse... S14 SR20. It just makes sense. Good luck. I hope my line of thinking helps a bit.:)

If you have the money. :icon16:
:banghead: Who wants to spend 2X the price of the part just for overnight shipping? :grinno:

You win the day...:)

alot of places have rb parts readily available.............if you do a swap do a swap, replace all shit that has a wearing factor to it. Oil pump, gaskets etc etc. Thats the only way to be sure. Id do that shit to an SR if i was into those.

www.jspecautosports.com has rb25 motors with anywhere between 20 and 60 thousand miles and includes complete motor,5sp rwd tranny, ecu and complete wiring harness for $2,599.00 which i believe is only about 400 or so hundred dollars more then a sr20 redtop with similar mileage and all the goodies included just like the rb25.yes it is going to be a heavier motor but price of the two motors are very similar..and a lot of people i have spoken too said all required to bolt into a 240 is a special set of motor mounts...so throw that into the equation and it wont be much harder then swapping in an sr20...just my opinion tho..but yes if the fact the motor is heavier deters you then go with an sr20 but if the weight difference doesnt bother you then go with what you want.plus the 240 is much lighter then most track or drift cars anyways that the extra weight in the car may throw the handling off a bit but still it will be a light car..just tune your suspension differently is all.

Cutting the point. The RB is going to end up costing you much more money. Its an older engine, parts are rare, and not nearly as much support as the SR20DET gets. The RB is less efficient than the SR. Why do you think they went with the 25 then eventually the 26? It seems like you are on a budget, where as most people here are on, so go with the SR.
