GTO vs ME, 04 WRX vs ME

Okay so I was going ome from work today on Bob Hope Dr. In Palm Desert Southern Cali. For those of you who aren't familiar with the Desert Area there is mass roads wiiiiiiide open. Anyways, my first race was my car vs an 04 WRX with exhaust, intake, boost controller, rims and whatever else. The guy was boasting about how he probably had 290 under the hood, but when I asked him if he had a piggy-back or ecu tuning he looked at me kinda funny and said "no, but my boost is set to the max at 12psi." Anyways, he says he want's to run so we get to a light and stop and then he says "oh yeah and it's auto.." Okay so we go and I pull on him by about 6 cars by the time we hit the next light, then he says "Well they are makin' them better". I just smiled a bit.
Next Race----> I am getting to the I-10W and this gto comes HALLIN' ass up behind me, a nice lookin one, brand new. He already had the windows all limoed out and the car was black too. So we take off he gets the jump, I catch up a little and shift in to second, we both chirped, and by the time I hit 65 he is about a half car in front of me, then we hit 70-80? and he cut the race off cuz we were gonna crash into people if we didn't stop. I was thinkin' shit thats right were it starts gettin' good. I KNOW I KNOW he would've beat my ass, but the WRX hung good on low end considering the car.

::EDIT:: I forgot to mention I took off all my mods but my intake. (Not that it makes a big difference)

I'm sure you wouldn't have much trouble beating an STi from a roll. However from a dig might be a different story....

Its all about strategy isnt it?
The STI has a .1 second faster quarter and a .1 faster 0-60 then my car (of course results may vary in the real world)
But you take away thier 6K rpm clutch dump and you gat a car with 70 less whp then mine and no top end and we got some GTOwnage!

there is a guy in my area that drives an STI and everyone that meets him thinks he is God cause he acts like such a hard ass, Im gonna humble his scrawny ass real soon. :evillol:

Coinsedently my best friend also has an STI but this guy actually races his car at amuture events and he knows how to drive that thing so I wouldnt mess with him.

Still Ive seen some tunned WRXs stick it to Vettes and Supras around here, I can imagine a TR with equal mods would own even harder!

the TR is like the base model of the WRX. "TR" stands for tuner-ready. Subaru made it for people who wanted the performance of the wrx without a few amenities for less $$$. its the same engine, turbo, 4wd system, etc. just less options for comfort and appearance. stuff like that.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't take much pride in a kill unless it's from a dig... But then again I don't take much pride in a victory unless it's on a track... An STi isn't too much to be afraid of with a 400HP RWD V8 from a roll. But from a dig on the street the STi will have a huge advantage. Keep in mind that that 13.2 1/4 is probably on a pretty sticky prepped track. An AWD car can get the same 60's on a dirty street as on a prepped track. Just somethin to think about.

Yes, but the STi drivetrain is pretty robust. I'm not saying it's okay for the car to do it 20 times a day, but it can definitely take a beating. Can't say the same for its arch-nemesis the Evolution.

The car does have a lot of potential but some serious computer tuning must go along with modding...my idea up-pipe, exhuast, intercooler, intake, bov & boost set to 16psi on ecu flash :) Then i should be hitting twelves with ease..which is cool cause i just spent about 8000 less than an sti or evo owner (although you do pay for what you get with those cars). Those cars are fast, but look at the specs too..at that point tuning gets even more wicked and expensive...BLAH! 12's is good for a daily driver :) Not to mention eating up cars on the track.

Those new WRX's have a larger motor then the old one (2.5 liters), so I think Subaru is underrating their horsepower a little.

Anyways, good loss author. Wanna run a WS6? I live in Southern California (Around Los Angeles).

Musashi, I would love to run a GTO. I would probably lose, I can never catch a red light with people, but it would be so much fun. I'm sad they are getting rid of the GTO in 2008, but maybe it will be reborn in a newer body style. I was never a big fan of the body of the 04-06 GTO, but I can't argue with an LS2 for $32K.

This other kid Im going after is some ricer whos always quoting magazine articles and DVDs he steals off line cause he is too cheap to buy em. Hes just a punk who had a shitty car and finally saved up enough to get a decent ride but its going to waste cause he babies the shit out of it. I asked him to run already a few times and he always gives me some BS excuse. Im just gonna catch him on the street with a camera and give him an ultimatum. Either run me or i'll post him pussying out on streetfire.

Oh and the GTO already got discontinued. June is the last shipment date. no more GTO.

Mabye from a dig, but I would think any highway run the GTO could pull on an STi if you were a least decient at shifting.

the GTO outguns every pontiac muscle car factory stats! Edit: except the Firehawks.

the Camaro SS and Trans Am WS6 had a 0-60 of 5.0 and 5.2 seconds and 1/4 mile times of 13.5 and 13.7 respectfully.
the GTO is 4.7 and 13.3.

again this is the absolute best avarge. in the real world Im sure there are slacker GTOs and factory freaked SS and TAs out there. but yeah its understandibly faster then the LS1 F-bodies.

Not that I care, Im not an SRT-4 driver that needs to have the fastest car on the road and freaking throws a hissy fit anytime someone beats him or says they can beat him. I love F-bodies. they are so freaking mean and sexy....oh man just thinking of those huge ram air nostrils on the TA....ohhhhhh, I need a few minutes here fellas! :boink:

Okay what you are doing is magazine/bench racing... Every LS1 GTO I have seen at the track ran in the 14s. I am assuming it has to do with the IRS which makes it much harder to launch and also eats some power. The fastest I have seen an LS2 GTO run is a 13.4. Whoever ran a 13.7 in an LS1 F-Body must have had some horrible birth deffect...

How am I being touchy-feely? I could care less about the GTO. Hell, I could care less about F-Bod's. I just bought the Camaro because I was getting tired of my 'Stang and wanted to break a car into the 10's. Personally, I think F-Bodies are actually kinda ugly, and the interior leaves much to be desired, so it's not really a car worth my time to defend.

Actually most of the mags have the WS6 as being quoted as faster then the WS6. I believe you shuffled the 13.7 sec. time of the Camaro SS, in Motor Trend, with the WS6's time. I'll forgive you this time, SLOW POKE.

I just don't like how cheap the plastics and the leather are. Other than that, I have no gripes about it. I have nothing against the erginomics, but everything in the interior feels like it was purchased from Wal-Mart.
