Is it worth it to fix it? [PICS]

Ok, its a 88 CRX Si, 241,000 miles.
The body is very rusty and needs pretty much all new pieces except the hatch and roof. the door sills are all rusted, 1/4 panels around fender and gas door have big holes in them, they would need to be replaced for sure. It would need new front fenders, hood, both bumpers, fix a hole in the floor in the cargo area. Needs new doors.

The power sunroof works and i just won a new panel for it on ebay. I would plan on getting used parts on ebay mostly. I know it would take time to find all of the right peices in good condition.

For now the motor runs awesome, starts right up every time and has no problems at all, doesnt burn oil since i put in some oil treatment. It would need to be swapped also eventually. Tranny shifts good with no problems at all. the interior is in great condition.

How much do you think this could end up costing for the new parts, i would do the work myself. the CRX is my favorite tuner for sure and i love it since i only payed US$150:iceslolan Its such a fun car.

The bodys in real bad shape. Body work is way too expensive. Id say just sell it and use the profit plus a little extra, and look for another CRX SI or HF in your area thats cleaner. So long as you find one with a clean body and interior thats pretty much all that counts in my opinion. The engine doesnt really matter since you should consider swapping it anyway-then you'll have yourself a very fun car.

yeah i bet that thing has a lot of hidden rust you dont know about. it doesnt even have si seats! thats gonna be a lot of work and money, even if you can do it yourself, which im guessing you cant from the thread. you'd be better off parting it out and making some money off it. and then pick up something a bit nicer.

actually, if he says it runs perfect and the car is mechanically sound, I would personally buy it as a daily driver. For $500 bucks you can't go wrong for a good running car.
However, the ONLY money I would spend on that car is on oil changes and tires, etc. I wouldn't spend a dime trying to fix the body or upgrade it.
I would look elsewhere if you are trying to find a car to build. Stay away from shells that are that rusty, as it will only spread, and spread and spread.

well, i already own the car, bought it in december for 150 bucks, i have been doing a little body work on it just for practice. Everything does work fine on it. I was just wondering what other people though about fixing it up.

i dont know about you but i would be worrying about that car snaping in half as i drive it. im a petty ghetto guy but i dont think i would even drive that. part it out and make some bills then start savin for a new one

Honestly, I don't think it looks very safe either. And this is coming from the guy who drives a CRX that was once on fire. I cut a lot of rust off my car but it was under the bumpers and along the sides. Have you checked up the middle of your car? I'd be worried about the frame snapping or the gas tank dropping. If the frame is still in good shape, then maybe you can fix the rest. I too am really ghetto with my makeshift roof job with sheetmetal and bondo, rear quarter panel reshaping and rivited side skirt to virtually nothing at all on the side of the car because it was all rusted. But I take a lot of chances...

Like everyone says here...get rid of it. Its not worth it. Come out to the westcoast and find yourself a CRX that has no rust. They might have sun fade but its a whole lot better than rust ;)

if the motor works, cut all of the body, add roll cage, voila; a fwd kart/dune buggy!!!

tha car really isnt worth much in a totally hoenst opinnion. al lthe new body panels and sections woudl cost 10 times what you paid for it and then all the body work. and im sure the structures is compromised mroe then you might think if it looks like that.

It'd cost him as much as buying another CRX thats in much better shape.

yeah i figured it would be like that. I dont think it is unsafe, it drives perfectly straight down the road and brakes are excellent. I have looked down the middle of the car and all and the main part of the frame and underneath is not rusty.

like i said, keep it as a daily driver, while you put money into another crx. It's always good to have another car while you do motor swaps and whatnot on your other crx.
If it runs good and is mechanically sound, $150 bucks is a steel!

indeed it would but if your deathly in love with the car then yes it can be done. as logn as you know how ot section of a car and put in new panels.
