97 ss will not start

I bought a 97 ss around four days ago. Everything ran and sounded good until I changed the oil tonight. The old oil was pretty dark. I tried to start the car after filling it back up with oil. The engine will turn over but will not run. It did run a couple of times, but not only for a few seconds it would die on its own or if I gave it gas. Any ideas on what the problem may be would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, check everything again and retrace your steps.. if not then it might be time for an tune up or something..

I can't even think of anything near the oil pan or valve cover cap that would cause that. I think it was just a coincidence that it happen at that time. Check your fuel pressure and buy a cheap ass spark checker, Or do it the old fashion way buy pulling a plug wire and testing for a spark. Could also be a pretty major vaccuum leak.

hmmm, just bought car, oil gets changed now a no start. Did the old oil smell like rotten farts (i.e. gear lube) by chance?

The oil did not smell, but looked pretty bad. The dealer towed it at their expense and is supposed to fix the problem. They suspected it was the fuel pump. I will keep you posted on how it turns out.

I got the car back from the dealer yesterday and everything seems ok on the car. They replaced the fuel pump and did not charge us for anything. I appreciate everyone's help on this board. Hopefully I will not need it much in the future.
