hitch installation

Hi,
I recently purchased a hitch from Uhaul because I wanted to be able to attach a bike rack to the back of my car to make transportation easier. Well, I looked at the two models of hitches available for a 2002 grand prix gtp automatic four door and bought the model 37103 because I was told that the other model was not really appropriate for my car.
I installed the hitch, but the actual hitch receiver part itself is way in front of the bumper. It's not exposed behind the bumper. There is a Ball Mount arm that when connected to the hitch receiver it extends behind the bumper that is good for towing. However, bike racks can not be attached to a ball joint arm. Does or have anyone know of an adapter that can get around this problem.
