Roof fell off at 60 mph on the new Z06. Remember, these cars came with a fixed roof, not a targa roof. Way to go GM.

Its not just the Corvette. GM builds really shitty cars overall, I wont miss thier bull if and when they go out of business. Im gonna be laughing my pants off at the Bald Eagles who have made it a hard time to own an import. My GTO lost its windshield weather stripping at 50 mph two days after I bought it. I had to buy adhessive and glue that shit myself. Then I did my first oil change and the powersteering hose was leaking beacuse they didnt tighten one of the hosses....it probably still is. the shock pan was full of rust cause its made of cast instead of stainless and the bumer underneath has no brace bracket, one small piece of road debriss and my bumper is gonna fly off. Oh and after only 600 miles my ABS mallfunctioned on me.
My 3000GT had over 150,000 mile and 12 years old.......never had a single problem!

Yes because there aren't millions of fucking families that actually depend on GM for a living, fucking assholes, your opinions would be better spent on a letter to GM maybe telling them how they can improve instead of sitting back hiding and talking shit.

Well I got my complaints but I had 400 reasons to buy it! :evillol:

Primarly yes, but not only that. I love that car, Ive been a fan ever since the first one came out in 2004. It was sort of a dream car that I never thought I could own. I still love it but I do have to admit that American built quality has alot of catching up to do to compete with import quality.

It was prolly faulty glue, in the end GM's fault.

This is a forum for discussing cars and their problems right? Why are we assholes? And how do you know they didnt send a letter to GM. That seems a little harsh to say when this is in fact a forum about cars IMO.

well actually, im sure every manufacturer has instances where things like this happen. its a fluke thing. i dont think it necessarily means the car is shit. also it is probably wrong to generalize and say that all american cars have crappy build quality because one thing happened on a vette. fluke things happen; for example, on the ford gt some dickweed at SVT sanded the crank shaft wrong on some engines. so on some of the cars ford had to fix it. thats not the companies fault, its just some morons fault.

CassiesMan
04-25-2006, 11:19 PM
Considering there is apperently a TSB about it...I don't think its 'just a fluke thing'. I dunno, even if it is, if I paid 70k for a car, I would get rather miffed at the fact the roof fucking fell off.

TheStang00
04-25-2006, 11:32 PM
well maybe its not a fluke thing... idk i didnt really look it up. i was really making a point more than anything though. but you also have a very valid point.

Musashi3000GT
04-26-2006, 12:00 AM
Its not the fact that its a fluke....its the fact that it shouldnt happen at all. The Corvette is the idol of american motorsports, its pride, its representative! you dont see shit lie this happening to the Skyline or the Carrera. you wanna know why?

Beacuse they have quality control and take pride in thier work rather then trying to turn a quick buck!

Also Josh, look at it this way bud. GM is not the only company that employs american people. I get a kick out of the old Vietnam vetts and the harley davidson drunks who say "Japanese cars are taking our jobs" and what not. Fact is Honda, Nissan, Mitsubishi, Volks-Wagen, Mecedes Benz, BMW, Hyundai, ect ect.... employ americans to work on thier factories here in the US. SO if GM closses....um....move next door!

Oh and no Im not gonna write a letter, I find it offensive. See im the consumer, as a consumer I pay money, because I pay money that makes me the boss, and as the boss I demand a quality product. Therefore writing a letter is a waste of time. We have the right to demand, GM is too lazy or stupid to listen to the consumer...then dont let the door smack them on the way out!

Ok guys calm down a bit.

Josh it seems you are talking this a bit personally, I assume you have some family or friends involved in this problem and we can understand why you are so upset. GM troubles affect many hard working families.

However ,this is not a GM bashing thread, its just a pun at a corvette that clearly had a defect. This is somewhat common on low series cars, especially hand built ones. One stressed or tired worker and you have a mistake. Well this is what warranties are for.

And yes there was some criticism at GM quality, but it was quite constructive. I'm quite ssure musashi does not hate chevy since he has a GTO and he seems to like it.

So lets play nice guys.:)

Right! I love my GTO and I support Chevy! But I get upset when these things happen because it reflects badly on us and If you support something you take it a little harder when your team makes mistakes!

I think Josh actually works for them as well so more power to ya.

^I was under the impression that he works for them too. I owned a GM once myself, and wasn't all that happy about the quality of their parts (I was able to cut out part of the inner door with my tin snips), but the car never had any major problems with it, and I bought it with 150K on the clock... if I were that vette owner though, I'd be pretty steamed about the roof coming off after only driving the car 2,000K, let alone the roof comming off in general.

Yeah, but it does wonders for your reputation, especially with one that is as prestigious as GM's.

I dunno, both of my parents GM vehicles have been nothing but junk heaps. Transmissions, electrical, computers, you name it, its gone wrong. Leaking convertible tops, sensors and locks failing. My grandparents Chevy has needed a new ECU, new locks also. Dad is going to buy a 350Z in the future (still not top quality but he has money now so he doesnt care) My 11 year old Honda is the emergency car when one of the others has a problem:grinyes:

My dad has his new truck with minimal electronics because he has just been fed up with them always going back. So now he purposely bought a truck with no power windows, locks, seats, etc. He's actually quite happy with it too.

My pappys 2000 GMC Sierra 1/2 ton Z71 really hasn't had anything REALLY wrong with it, U-Joints replaced, some sticking of the pedels, other than that, it still works, and we abuse it.

The whole roof didn’t come-off, just the top panel came unglued, it’s not structural problem. It’s an embarrassing problem, but that all it is. And when you read about BMW with engine and transmission problems, an unglued roof panel isn’t all that bad in comparison.

Underground_Killah
04-27-2006, 03:06 PM
^agree
however it is still a problem that needs to be rectified because you know he's not the only guy with that problem. GM should do a better job of quality testing before shipping to dealers

But that'll drive costs up... the roof coming undone isn't a big deal... as stated it's not structual, the car won't crash because of it.

If GM really wanted to solve the problem, they'd of designed the car to be a true hardtop like the C5 Z06. Instead of a modified targa top car that's bolted permanently in... C5 Z06's look hot with that little hardtop. mmm.

yea but anything that just flies off of a car isn't safe for other drivers, even though structurally it's solid, it's not fair to the guy in a volvo behind him (see the safety aspect i'm hinting to?) who get's clobbered with the debris

It’s a composite body panel it doesn’t weight enough to clobber anything.

PWRDbyUNCLEbens
04-29-2006, 09:42 PM
.. But it could most certainly cause someone to get into a serious accident no doubt about that. When I see the roof of a sports car come flying at me I dont stoop and think "it's probably just made of a lightweight composite material, it probably won't do anything, so Ill just keep driving like normal"

it's Usually OMFG I'M GOING TO GET HIT BY A %$@#* ROOF I BETTER SWERVE THE HELL OUTTA THE WAY!!!...... more like that.

As for Gm build quality my brother has had his 03' Duramax Chevy Truck at 350whp with a chip/exhaust/intake for the last 80,000 miles, and all he's had is a little hiccup in the tranny. So certainly not every vehicle is faulty. Some of the stories I've heard from other gm products have been somewhat disgraceful however.

TorchedStealth
04-30-2006, 12:07 AM
My cousin also has a chipped '03 duramax and he's only had to replace the pinion arm i think. And my parents have never had any problems with GM's and they have owned a number of them over the years. Not saying it wont happen though.
