power window stopping

what will make a power window go up about four inches and stop, then a few minutes later go up a little more and stop, over and over until it is all the way up? it does go better if i pull up on it while closing. most of the time it will go just about all the way down before it stops, but going back up is slow.

My buddies Z24 does that. No idea why. I just ask him if hes having trouble gettin it up.

You need a new power window motor they arent cheap and are not easy to replace but that is what I would bet your problem is.

I've been having the same problem with my driver side window. I found that the motor was just going bad and would heat up too much when used. Right now, I've the panel off and am trying to figure out if I have to pound out the rivets to get it in. Hmm.

Yeah changing that motor is a pain in the ass. I never did get the motor out, I have a wreck that I use for part and I ended up torching the motor out of that car for my other one. Haha oh well torching the door panel was fun anyways :D

yeah that panel is a pain to get off. i already had to replace that little plastic roller in there, it was busted. so it could be a switch or motor, what about the regulator? could that cause this?

I'm having the same dang problem with my 96 Z-24 driver side.
Can any of you that posted in this thread follow up with some info?
I've had the outer part of the inside part of the door off before (it's just a bunch of philips screw heads) but when you guys talk about getting the panel off, are you taling about the metal part between the cockpit and the window motor? If so, isn't that welded on there?
Oh yeah, and what is a master switch and where is it located?

Oh yeah, and what is a master switch and where is it located? the master switch is the window switches. in the armrest. and i dont think the inner door is welded i think that its like riveted. i just replaced the switch and everything was fine.

So, it's the whole unit in the arm rest there? Just pop that sucker out and replace it?

So, it's the whole unit in the arm rest there? Just pop that sucker out and replace it?yes you pop off the plastic piece around it which will bring the unit out. just unplug it and throw in a new one. i got one from the junkyard or you can go with a brand new one.

the gm window motors aren't the greatest cuz my '98 z-24 is doing the same thing on the passenger side and even a little on the driver side
it might just need lubed up like my moms chevy venture,it would take like 15 seconds to go up and that is with the help of you pulling on it, but now that is it is lubed up it takes like 2 seconds and works without any help

Dude, I called like 20 junk yards and none of them had one, and when I went to the dealership they want like $100.
Where'd you get yours?

That's what my girlfriends dad told me it might be. Did you try it on your cav, or just witnessed your moms results?
Is it hard, and what parts would need lube?

Where'd you get yours?yeah i know i also called a shit load and there all like well your going to have to go and look around in the yard. so i did and finally found one that was in a sunfire. just snatched that bitch out and threw it in my cavy.:grinyes: most of the junkyards dont know half the shit they have like window switches. thats why you have to look around. out of probably 25 cavys and sunfires there was only 2 with power windows, rest had manual.

She emailed me a pick of the unit and the prongs and it is going to worl I believe. She's losing money on those auctions because I really think It is a 95 and up unit. I'll let you know when I get it.
(Oh yeah, she said she used it in a Monte too, but it didn't fit right so it was sitting out, but still worked. )

Got it.
Woke up yesterday at my girls house really early cause she had to work. Anyway, I was hung over as hell, but her dad said we could take a look at my window, because I had the inner panel ripped off.
It just so happens that he had a GM PW motor he never used (it was for a late 80s model GM) and it was the right motor, so we gutted the door and put the other motor in (if it wasn't for her dad, I wouldn't have been able to do it).
We got everything back together and put the guts back in and it worked! Took about 4-5 hours though and the heat index was over 100, and I was weathering a lethal hangover from Saturday, but we got it. :grinyes:
Needless to say, my parents just shelled out $400 for the same thing in their 97 Taurus, so I figure I saved myself at least $400. :grinyes:
Thanks everyone for your help.
