I know this will be taken the wrong way, but at least I'm posting it in this section where y'all have asked for feedback.
Why is it that when a total a**hole signs up with AF, it seems that they become a moderator within a month or so?
I see these guys popping up & posting... and I say to myself, "Boy, is this bloke annoying or what! I hope he gets banned!" Then, the next time I log in he is a moderator! WTF?
Why is this? Why does AF make the most unstable people (with the exceptions of 007apl and rockintheastro) into moderators?
If you can't say it here, at least private message me and let me know.

can you email me at automotiveforums.com ?
Please include more details like who exactly you are talking about, why you don't think they should be a moderator, etc.
Thanks!

My concern is not with you my friend. :right:
I may get pissed off when a moderator flames me, but I've never taken it farther than that. After the initial shock wears off, I realize that a good debate is healthy!

I try hard to stay on Mr. T good side and see what happens since I think I'm  with the other mods :D
I still am not exactly sure how a mod is formed? Is there voting or something?
And so I don't go to off-topic.....wouldn't the voting prevent arssholes from becoming mods?

If you've ever seen the voting that goes on in the graphic manipulation forum, you'd realize that it's probably more trouble than it's worth. Personally, I would rather rely on the judgement of the senior mods to decide who will be a suitable moderator.

i do agree with DMC12, some of the mods maybe shouldnt be mods. but only a few, the rest are very good. in particular i think all the admins are good (the ones with @af in their names?), and Tom_S8, Chris , Si 2 Si and Primera Man all seem good and know what they are talking about in their respective fields.
O yeah, and that guy from tirerack.com is very helpful, but he should be i guess, he works for them.

As KBSlacker has already pointed out, there is a distinct lack of balls in this thread.By failing to name the names, you are effectively casting a shadow over the whole staff of AF.
In a community of this size, there will always be differences of opinion. To my knowledge NOBODY at AF has ever been banned from AF for raising their concerns about the standard of modding. If you are unhappy about the way things are done, say so directly to the person concerned....mods need the feedback if they are going to do the job effectively...
And just from my perspective,I've never known anybody be invited to become a moderator "within a month or so",nor have I ever known a "total asshole" to ever have made it onto the staff.Your opinion may well be different, but nobody is going to take any action against you if you voice it....If we couldn't take a bit of flak now and again,we wouldn't be in the job.

I have a few comments: MadPrawpz, the PM system works miracles in terms of talking to people privately once you've found them. I know that sometimes people don't realize we have one, but I will thank you in advance for using it in the future.
And just as the other mods have said, please don't be afraid to tell us something specific. So long as you provide us with constructive criticism instead of saying "you all s*ck" we will take your opinion seriously. We can only continue with what we are doing the way we are doing it unless we get feedback. You won't be banned for stating your opinion. AF simply doesn't work that way. We are a very open community, and welcome what our members have to say.

i have no huge problem with any mod, although i think some are better than others, as would anyone. but even though this only internet, if somebody said to you're face, you are a dick, i dont like you, you would be hurt yes? I dont think a public thread is right for anyone to name names, but if i had a big problem with a mod i would PM the mod concerned, and then PM admin, and not mention it to anyone else.
And yes i have noticed there are a few mods who have but a couple of hundred posts to their name. but if they prove themselves to be good for the job then good on them.

Alot of the best posts come from people that don't post often at all. Like Texan, ivymike, or XOTech.

I haven't seen any bad mods! I do stay in OT most of the time, not allowing me to see other mods then the regulars there,( taranaki, moppie, primera-man, spec2 girl, tangie, and some others) but I have started to see others and they seem fine in there posts and they aren't just junk posts like other people. Some mods post whore, but, it's not really whoring as much as it's the fact that they have to be here more and look through more threads, but they don't whore anymore than someone else does,(ex. joke threads with just "that was funny" and some smilies)but everyone else does it, so no big deal there!
*tries to lighten mood*
Now if I became a mod or Moss, then you could get mad and peepes would know who you are talking about! :p

Being one of the senior Mods I'd like to just say a few things.
A lot of times there are some actions that have to be taken to make AF function better as a whole. As much as we try to please everyone, there will be some who aren't happy. We try and maintain a medium here that everyone will feel comfortable posting and whatever else you'd like. AF is made up of a community of members getting together and learning from one another. I'd like to make one thing clear too, Mods do not run things. We maintain.:)
Part of our job is to make sure things are running smoothly and that the forums aren't cluttered. A lot of times you have spammers, flamers, postwhores, etc. who add nothing really of value to the forums. IMO, I think it detracts from AF. Now I'm not implying that certain things can't be done, but every member needs to realize that there has to be a limit to things. That is what a Mod does. I know sometimes it may seem that we are too harsh or control freaks. But put yourself in our shoes and try doing the work we do. It really isn't easy. I credit a lot of the Mods on here for doing a good job. Maybe there are some that need a little guidance in how to Mod. Those Mods are assisted in the Mod Corner. But no Mod on AF's staff ever goes unnoticed, no matter how much you may think we don't see. We are all under careful watch(Igmeister:D ), and trust me, things get addressed very quickly.
Now if you have an opinion about the staff or another member, you're encouraged to express it. So long as Tangie previously stated, it's done in a proper manner. Comments like "He's a dickhead" or "She's an asshole", only discredits you more than the offender. At least that is what I see.
As for me, I try and be unbiased in all issues related to AF. I may be a little direct and to the point, but at least you know that I'm not prejudiced when I make a decision and neither is any other Mod for that matter.
So if you feel that a Mod is coming down on you or you feel you're being picked on, speak to that Mod or other member, via PM or IM. Communication is key and sometimes issues can be resolved with very little involvement of a Mod. Remember, when a Mod get's involved it's either because he/she noticed it or someone has brought it to their attention. In the end, AF should be a pleasurable experience for everyone and not just a chosen few.
Thank you
DVS
