hesitation during acceleration

My car hesitates for about half a second repeatedly when i step on it. It feels almost like it lurches, mostly when in low RPMs, under a load (going up a hill or something like that). My hunch is that its something with the fuel system. Any one have any suggestions? Thanks

Any set rpm level that this happens at? What year and model 3/S do you have?

She's a 92 SL, it happens between about 1,000 and 4,000, but only when the throttle is down anywhere over about 50%

you have an SL, so you have ECS. This may sound really weird, but try unplugging your ECS module in the trunk. Some people have claimed that this has stopped hesitation cause of some sort of electrical signals with the ECU, dont ask lol (it doesn't cost you any money if it works). If that doesn't work, then you can just start off doing simple things such as replacing the fuel filter. When's the last time that the spark plugs and wires have been changed?

Spark plugs are misfiring. Get 'em fixed.

Probably not the spark plugs, but I bet you need new spark plug wires.

Well, I had the same exact problem about 5 months ago, and it turned out that my spark plugs were...well...plugged. ><
