I cant remember exactly where i saw this idea (somwhere in this forum i think), but im thinking it would be some ill shit if i could get LED lights hooked up behind the air vents in my car.
Does anyone know a good way to rig this up? I was thinking of just splicing a hotwire from my stereo and then rigging a switch on my dash so that i could turn the lights on whenever i wanted... is this a bad idea or, better yet, who has done this and knows what would be a good approach

my friend did this, and he wired them up to his parking lights, cuz you can hardly see it during the day.
he just drilled them into the housing of the vents and ran the wires behind the dash.

don't wanna rain on your parade but you might wanna check local laws on that.
if its all good run it to parking lights like the guy above wrote. it'll work like washer lights

Something like that wouldn't be a problem with that. I most states, if there is a law about interior lights, I more than likely (in CA at least) states that interior lights are only illegal if you can see the actual source of the light, like if you can see the LED directly from outside of the car, if you just esee the glow from it (or even neons for that matter on the interior) then there's no law being broken. :)

I did this but i wired them up right to my fuse box. Took a 7.5 fuse, melted the top down to get to one of the connectors on the fuse and soddered the red wire right too it and plugged it into my fuse panel in a free spot. Works fine. I hooked it up to a switch so i can turn them off and on. Have one under the steering column, 1 in passenger side vent, 1 in drivers vent and 1 down under the glove box. Looks tight.

I've seen this done before, but the l.e.d.s werent all that bright, since theyre werent hidden at all. the kid made a heavily spaced border along the bottom of the dash and it lead around the shifter column. it looked pretty good at night. he said it was called "demon lighting", butl ike i said, the lights werent all that bright, so you could see a small glow from the led, but it didnt light up the whole car. Ive also seen it done all over the interior, and let me tell you, did that look like crap. dont go overboard on something like this.

I put neon lights inside the vents. One 9" tube behind the center vent, and a 3" tube inside the vents on either side. Nice and bright, looks good. I wired mine to a switch though, so I can turn them on and off instead of having them be on all the time.

Why didn't you just use a male spade connector?
