I need pics of the fuel tanks in their position inside the car. Maybe the diagrams in the owner's manual show their shape and their position. Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance.

Unfortunately I don't have any F40 diagrams, but I presume the F50 has similar fuel tank positioning?

In one either the F50 or the F40 they used bag tanks such as those used in racing and so they wouldn't both have the same positioning. If I remember correctly the fuel tank was located in the same place on both the Testarossa and the F40 as they shared very similar chasises. If that is the case then it should be at the back on either side of the engine see page 63 of this link http://www.icbm.org/erkson/personal/cavallino_rampante/Owners%20Manual%20Testarossa%201989.pdf for a diagram

Not quite for either. The F40 has two tanks, in the bays just forward of the rear wheels, and they're roughly cubical in shape. The other Ferrari most similar to the F40 in fuel tank configuration and everything else is the 288. The Testarossa does share a welded steel construction with the F40, but mechanically their configurations are not particullarly similar. The F50 and F40 are about as different as two mid engine Ferrari's can be, but the F50 is pretty close to the Enzo....

What kit are you doing? Makes a difference in how much info you need.

What would help most would be an F40 owner's manual, as there is a diagram showing the approximate tank shapes- but I couldn't tell you where you could download one.

Here's a cutaway view showing one of the 2 tanks just forward of the rear tire

Thanks all for your replies.
The kit I am using is Tamiya's one and I have the impression that looking from behind the car, with the bonnet opened, it is going to be possible seeing, at each side of the engine, the holes where fuel tanks should be. I know their position is behind the rear wheels (seeing from behind the car), but I need knowing their shape and their size.
I think it is going to be difficult to find a copy of the owner's manual, so I will probably not put the tanks.
Hope I were lucky.
Cheers!

Don't worry too much about the tanks on the tamiya kit. They're really only going to be visible from undernieth. The simple solution is to make a cube out of styrene sheet that will fit in the bays and paint them up. I want to say the F40's tanks are foam filled welded aluminum, but I'm really not sure.
