Welp I finally got my new 3rd gen lifters installed today:grinyes: It was a bit of a pain but hey, no pain, no gain. It is sooo quiet now, I had to keep going out and starting it just to listen:rofl: I have had the tick so long, that it will take time to get used to the silence again.
I would like to thank the guys that recommended parts dinosaur for the lifters. www.partsdinosaur.com He gets 2 thumbs for customer service, fast delivery and very decent prices. He's a great guy.
Thanks again guys. Now to take me 3 Gen lifters off me to do list:naughty:

So what's different with the 3G lifters? Are they good for the 420a?

Pardon my ignorance, and off-topicness. But what actually happens to the lifters that makes them tick? (my civic ticks and i adjusted them, but its still there)

they are not from a 3g or 2000+ eclipse. 2g lifters are simply revised lifter that mitsubishi came out with in the late 90's.

first off its in the design of the head on the lifter. that little ball part on top that comes in contact with the rockers. the 1g and 2g have little oil holes for lubercation as were the 3g lifter have a hole 2x if not 3x bigger for more oil and more lubercation. you said that you adjusted your lifters , honda's must have solid lifter, dsm lifter are hydrolic lash adjusting , simly said no adjusting needed.

We have hydraulic lifters eh? I'll be damned. :)

From my understanding lifter tick is just oil getting clogged in the lifters. IIRC, the hole in the little-holed lifters is 1 mm and the big-holed lifters were 3 mm. Also, I heard that soaking them in kerosene over night will unclog them.

you are also correct, the holes are small and easy to clog.

Mine are clogged as hell, I will soak one in kerosene to test the actual cleaning ablility. I am just too cheap to get the revised lifters :D. Also, correct me if I am wrong, but the 99's were the only ones to get the big-holed lifters.

Really? Mine ticks a lot while warming up. And I use only the best in the oil/filter dept.

Why the hell do they call them 3g lifters then? That makes for some confusing shit, considering we always classify eclipse/talon based on it's generation and then these "new" lifters are called 3rd generation? Maybe I'm just retarded.

The lifters went through 3 revisions by Mitsubishi, hence "3rd gen". That's how Jeff (my Mitsu mechanic) explained it to me. They increased the top hole to 3mm and they are also just a tad taller as well. The install was pretty straight forward. You will have to turn the engine quickly a couple of times to move the cams so that you can get the lifters out and to re-install the rocker arms when you replace them. Oh yeah, WATCH YOR FINGERS!!!!
I got all 16 lifters for $128.00, $134.00 shipped. That's $8.00 a piece as compared to Mitsubishi wanting $51.00 a piece.

As for the 420A engine. I do not know bud, sorry.

Didn't someone say that mineral spirits will do some good when cleaning parts as well? If you can try that too and leave some feedback on how it works.

After I had replaced them, I am happy to say that I did. However, I am glad that I did because if I had just cleaned them and put them back in that would mean that I would have to go through that all over again "FINGERS!"
NO THANKS!!!. Once was enough. But if ya wanna clean them and have to do it again after a while, more power to ya. :evillol:

Good luck with it.

John
