The RSX and the Celica probably have equal reliablility however the RSX is a little faster but if you are considering tuning the cars then it is not a problem and the RSX has more luxury, but the Celica has some cool features too like the aluminum pedals with rubber grips and the action package. They are also both hatches with just about the same amount of room inside so I guess it all depends on which one you think looks better. I've driven both of them and they are both really fun to drive, (they both have six speeds) I got a little more attached to the RSX but the Celica is really nice too. Are you considering any other cars Moe? Cuz I was once considering these two and then I had my mind set on the RSX but then came the news that the GTI was getting 204 Horsepower and six speeds and now I can't decide which one>

naw, im just not a fan of the looks of that VW....i just cant see myself in that car ya know? I mean they are great cars...my sis has a VW Jetta. But its just not me.
Im really just down to the RSX and Celica. The RSX has heated seats (I live in Canada, and when its like -10 or -20* C its a big plus) but i think the celica has more character because less people have them, because like the integra everyone will have the RSX soon. But the RSX is new and wont be redesigned for a while. who knows about the celica. From what i hear the Celica's technoligy is OK , nothing special, but not out dated...the RSX i would think would have an edge there. Plus i think the RSX is a bit cheaper. I do plan to do a bit of aftermarket work, but nothin major like going to shows or anythin. Just enough so its just personalized, so im not too concerned about the after market parts for either. So yea, id be glad to hear everyones opinion on my problem here....

Well i got my chevy z24 stolen 3 weeks ago so im now looking for a new car which i will buy in the next 2 weeks :D yay! :D and i was also considering those choice, except fot the wrx which is a little more expenseive.
I must say that i have a little preference for the GTI. Like kbslacker said, i wont see any of those on the road. RSX is looking good, but i went to the dealer and he sold 20 in a few days. How many will there be on the road in a few months?
As for the luxury, does the RSX has a windshield washer heated nozzle as do the GTI? Very useful up here in Canada.
Civic Si-R is also good looking and will probably be cheaper then GTI, RSX, WRX and Celica. As for the Ford, let's just not talk about it.
Have you though about the Mercedes C230 Kompressor? If you don't put to many options, the price is in the same range then the WRX, and you can't beat the luxury of a Mercedes.
Well that's it gotta get to work now :(

note for the focus...
i voted for it... b/c i am equal opportunity
also... its not a ford
its an svt vehicle.
it has a motor built by cosworth, who is, oh yeah, one of the best engine builders in the world.
it has a getrag six spd in it. oh hell no... nice piece
and the rest of the parts are nicer than a reg focus...
hell... the thing has 170hp and 145tq...
when you consider the tq number of an si with 160hp and 110tq... hmm... not like i dont like the other cars
i love the vw and wrx... big faves...
but i like the svt focus too...

Since you live in Canada the best choice to get is premium model. It's basically a Type S with base model engine. You can then slap on the turbocharger that's coming out for K20A. It makes 320hp at the wheel.
moe182
09-13-2001, 10:44 PM
oh really.....whats this turbo gonna do to the type S?

ok...
so why not just get a type s and turbo that?
its a 40hp advantage from the start...

Base model engine have a much lowered compression ratio than Type S. To achieve serious boost you need to have a lower compression to avoid detonation. You could lowered the compression on Type S with head gasket etc but that cost money and a lot of labor. The only problem I see with this is 5 speed manual vs 6 speed manual. You could still run a turbo on Type S. Just that it probaly be really low psi and not making enough powered to justify the dough you spend.
gang$tarr

there's no way i'd go for the premium model, i'd have to take type-s

is the wrx a plain wrx? or a WRX STi? the STi has a 6 speed tranny, a bigger turbo than the WRX pushing out 17.5 psi, 276 hp@6400, 275 lbs of torque@4000, and a 0-60 time of 4.6. all for $31995. (got this from http://www.fantasycars.com/sedans/html/wrxnewsti.html ) but im not sure whether they tested the japan spec one or the us spec one. im not sure if there is a difference, but usually there is and japan specs are better

you do realize that a japan spec car pushing "276 hp" is fibbing right?
they have a ceiling on what you can state the factory hp at... we all know that the numbers get a little higher...
not unlike the musclecar era where cars commonly had about 40-50 more hp than stated, mostly for ins reasons...
and there have been jdm cars that have been dynoed stock at over 300hp... so the 276 is a govt regulatory number...
but its not here yet... the evo will be, so the STi should follow soon... i hope... and the price is about right, should be around 30k, and this was in motor trend a coupla mo's back...

Lancer Evolution 7 cost about 23,000 if you convert from Japanese Yen. But in this business world straight conversion does not work. Even if Subaru WRX STi only cost 31,000 from straight conversion. It will not be imported to America for that price for many reasons. From all the information I had been given it would be 35-40k.
280hp is the manditory limit for Japanese cars. Japanese government only said JDM car manufacture can't advertise more than 280hp. How do you think a ultra heavy Skyline can achieve below 5 seconds with only 280hp? Dyno have proven STi, Evo7 and Skyline etc all produce more than it's advertise hp. The gentleman agreement is pretty much useless. Numerous cars have broken that limit and advertise more. NSX, Nissan Cima and other cars have done so already.
