a/c line question

I feel like an idiot. This afternoon I was working on my car and I accidentially dropped a utility knife. Of all the places for the knife to fall it fell right on the low side hose for the air conditioning. Just my luck, why couldn't it have hit the metal part of the line... It didn't completely cut through the hose but it made a little nick that is maybe a quarter inch long and doesn't seem to be very deep and hasnt created a leak, knock on wood. My question is how durable are the hoses for the typical a/c system? Could this eventually cause the hose to leak or rupture or am I just being paranoid? I need to not bring sharp objects within 10 feet of my car from now on. something bad always seems to happen when I do. thanks!

Its doubtful that it will ever hurt anything, the pressure holding capabilities come from the reinforcement that lies about halfway in the thickness of it.
