Ozz Fest

So Saturday I spent 11 hours at Ozz Fest at the www.CTNow.Com Meadows Music Center (obscene how long that name is, isn't it? In the good old days, it was "The Meadows"). I had a great time. Rob Zombie and System of a Down were of course big crowd pleasers. I wasn't too taken with Adema, which is too bad since the mastermind of the band is Jonathan Davis' younger brother. It was nice to get to check out Soil, and Otep's singer, who is female, has some amazing ability to hit dramatically low notes. Seeing HateBreed in their home state (they are from New Haven) was quite exciting, as the crowd was insanely fired up during their set. My friend Zig and I were pinned up against a wall the entire time they performed. Madness. A speaker on-stage actually caught fire during Down's set, much to the amusement of a visibly highly stoned Phil Anselmo (Pantera, CrowBar, Down, and others). I'm just glancing over the personal highlights - seeing that many bands in one day (~15? I can hardly even count that high) can leave you feeling very numb.

I had some fun on Sunday as well, as I went down to XM Satellite Radio studios in Washington DC, and was able to check out a live studio performance by Candiria, a very very heavy metal band (I'll go so far as to call them hard core) from Brooklyn, NY. I feel that I have broadened my horizon into a new realm of music, one that is heavier than even hard hitting bands like Slipknot and Soufly.

Lots and Lots of metal, a good weekend :ylsuper Rock on, head bangers.

I heard a bunch of the guys from Slipknot are forming another band... Should be interesting.

But many of them are involved in interesting side projects. I know Sid Wilson is knee-deep in some DJ'ing project in the world of hip hop, and Corey is obviously doing some solo recordings (with "Bother" being on radio playlists nationally). And I think Shawn Crahan is into something cool-sounding as well, but I forget what.

SOAD seriously rocks. Last time they were in NZ they cause so much of a mosh pit the front barriers collapsed. I was in the middle of it, it was SO cool:D

I want Disturbed and Saliva to come and Drowning Pool to come back.

Sounds like you had fun... I really wanted to go, mainly just to see System...

I wanted to go to the free concert they held way back (the riot one :P) But I didn't make it to that one either...

Quick question, I heard some of their live songs on the internet and it sounded A LOT different than their cd versions *shrugs* I'm sure they are bad ass live anyways :)

System rocks...

Indeed, some System songs do sound a bit different live (notably Chop Suey and Sugar), but others (like Pogo) sound remarkably like their studio recordings.

 Hate to say it, but never heard of the "Y-100 Feztival."

Ahh, never mind then. It's a huge concert around me. I guess its mostly local though. It must not as big as I thought it was. Oh well.

Yea, I think the live song I heard was War... it just didn't sound the same... still cool, but not the same...
