I just purchased an 87. It runs great, however will need some TLC and a bit of tinkering. This is the first Toyota I have ever owned. Bought it used 148,000 miles for 500.00

Anyway, the guy I bought it from said the power steering pump was bad. When I got it home I put PS fluid in and it thanked me, worked great and then leaked out of what appears to be the "rack" very quickly. How hard are these to change and do you guys have any tips & tricks?

Also, The brake lights worked fine when I got the car 5 days ago, now they don't and the little dash indicator is on. All blinkers tail lights etc work fine but not the brake lights. Please help me.

Thanks! beyondnascar in MD.

I've never tried to change the rack with the engine in, three bolts go in from the top and one from the bottom and then the end links. Two are under the PS pump and one under the A/C compressor, could be a tight squeeze to fit a wrench and your hands. For the lights try getting another taillight failure box (just under the taillight) or check the switch above the brake pedal. Could also be bad grounds inside the lights, check the white housing to see if the ground screws or bulbs are loose or corroded. Not a whole lot that could go wrong in the system.
