Sylvania Silverstar

Just wondering if anyone has had any heat issues with the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs. My lights seem to get pretty hot and I don't know if this will become an issue or not?
I have a 2001 GASE if you need to know...

I've got SilverStar's in my headlights, and also in my fog lights. No heat problems at all. I love the bulbs; a very bright, crisp, white light.....

Yes those SilerStars get pretty hot, but not really any hotter than standard bulbs.

The real problem with SSS is that sometimes they burn out the high beams pretty quick.
Most from the DRLs running on high during the day.
I hav sent back(to the factory) at least 100 bulbs.
Not just from my vehicls either, several makes and models do the same, burn out to soon.

Did find that when the cars lights are on, dont slam the hood shut. For some reason the impact has caused me to burn out a few prematurely.

They are great lights, I still use them in all my vehicls.

I had one fog light bulb go bad on me, so I e-mailed Slyvania to ask what the life expectancy was. Surprisingly, they shipped me two new #880 fog light bulbs. I was so surprised, as I didn't expect that.
I've since found out from other posts that Slyvania is very, very friendly with customer support matters, and they'll usually always mail you new bulbs. Not too many companies like that around these days!!
They also told me that the #880 fog light bulb is rated for 100 hours of useage. I don't know the hours of the regular headlight bulbs though.....

Xero, did they mail you new bulbs too? From what I have read they are an awesome company and take care of customers very nicely... Sure is nice to know....

Hey, Thanks a lot you guys. I found out that I had a little issue in the radiator that was making the front end a little warm. Once I got that resolved everything cooled right back down. Thanks for all your inputs..

ya Tommy I've sent my bulbs and others burn outs, so they think I'm eating them :lol But ya they hav always returned new bulbs, and then some extras now and again.

One thing I did knowtice on the new Sylvania's packaging, thiers a manufactor date code, so you can tell how long they hav been laying around.
Buy the fresh ones!

And its not like any one else makes light bulbs for Pontiacs, just Sylvania, and thats a monopoly you cant beat :)

Wow, I didn't know that....thanks. Yup, they seem very customer friendly. When one of my fog light bulbs burnrd out, I sent them an e-mail to inquire about it. They responded right away and said they will mail me two bulbs as replacements .... and I didn't have any reciept, not did they even ask when I bought them! That's pretty darn good customer service!

I love these Silvertar's because of the crisp, white light. And I also like them for reading road signs. I noticed that large signs; route markers; stuff like that... really light up nicely now as these bulbs seem to "fan outwards" nicely.
I like them very much and recommend them highly.....

I'm glad I read this post. Now, I know when to get a replacement of my new silverstars. At first my head light was just puny and I can't even see the road if there is an incoming vehicle. Now, I can see very far and some folks on the opposite thinks I'm on high beam which I'm not. I think I have to adjust my headlights properly to the right level :) Also, my headlight cover were faded. After using a headlight lens restorer from Autozone, now I can see my silverstars bulb visually though the headlight cover lens. :)

Wow, that's cool... Mine were way beyond the point of trying to restore them. Plus, I ruined them even more by mistakingly spraying Armor-All car cleaner on the black rubber gasket; and I forgot to hose it off. The cleaner sat on my gaskets and plastic covers in full, hot sun.... and the cleaner permanently etched marks right into the plastic. They actually felt very rough; that damn cleaner etched deeply into the plastic.
It's a great cleaner.... just don't let it sit on plastic surfaces in hot sun for too long, lol...... I was trying to clean the rubber gaskets from road grime, prior to waxing the car. I wanted to put a coat of wax on the rubber for protection... that was why I sprayed 'em with Armor-All. Only thing, I forgot about that cleaner and it ruined the plastic, lol. If I knew how to put a photo here, I could show what how they got ruined; deep etchings in the plastic. I guess I can be an idiot sometimes, lol !!!! Either that, maybe I'm getting memory problems, ha ha ha...it's tough gettin' old..

Also, it sounds like your headlight aim is off...... I doubt that you should be blinding oncoming traffic; so it sure sounds like the aim is way off...
Do what I did.... drive to any state auto inspection place, and ask them if you can drive the car in just to check your aim. Surprisingly, my aim was right-on after I installed my new housings. I was so surprised too, as I struggled like hell to install the damn housings.....

Oh well.... good luck with yours; I would check your aim though.......as it sure sounds like it is off.
