My cougar's charging system is acting up. It is acting like the alternator went completely dead. I've been told and read about a fuse for the alternator. Where is it at? I've checked the one for the battery sensing. I don't want to tackle taking out the alternator or pay to have someone look at it if I don't have to.

dont remove alt just yet there is a mfg. problem with this cars alt wireing. the red (+) wire comeing from the alt is known to short out agansed the cars chassis about 4-6 inches from the alt. jack the car up find the red wire attached to the alt(there will be a black rubber boot at the alt). follow the wire it is tight behind the motor (agansed the firewall) about 14 inches from the alt. and before the starter (witch is mounted above the trans. and under the air intake hose close to the intake manifold) look for a black plastic case about 3 inches long and 1.5 inshes high (if you remove the coil, don't worry the plug wires and coil are marked so you can replace them no problem) it will be easer to find. not sure how it is attached i just pulled toeards the firewall until the mount broke. inside the case is a 150 to 200 amp maxi fuse that can be bought a any autozone for about 10 bucks. if this fuse is blown check carefully for a short by the alt and tape the wire as well as loosening the wire at the alt and moveing it out of the way remember the engine moves towards the firewall when you step on the gas so move the wire enough. if that doesn't solve your problem e-mail me at [email protected] and we can go from there
