I hear this is a common problem. The local city is selling their fleet of 01 durango police suv's. Im thinking about buying some and a few of them say " Starts but will not stay on"

I am wondering how much this would cost to fix. Ive read a few things saying its just a dirty intake sensor. Im trying to figure out how much im willing to spend basicly

My D is a 99 with the 318 engine so I'm not sure how that compares to the trucks that you're looking at buying. My problem ended up being carbon build-up in the throttle body where the throttle position sensor inserts into the back of it. Unplug the wire connector from the sensor, remove the (2) torx head screws, remove the sensor and clean both the sensor and the throttle body with a toothbrush and lots of throttle body cleaner. Make sure that you disconnect the battery for 10-15 seconds after re-installing the sensor to reset the PCM. It's been almost two months now since I did this and no repeat problems with the truck dying.
