Has anyone out there fixed this one?

I'm helping a neighbor with a '90 2.9 that's idling really rough. "Profile Ignition Pickup" (PIP) circuit failure. ????

I'm not sure of the electrical hookup on the ignition as I don't have a diagram for a 90. I would assume that it should be the same or similar to the 93-95. The possiblities would be ICM, crankshaft sensor and PCM. Do you have a scope?

Do not have scope ... just an old analogue VOM. I'm going to have AutoZone test the ignition module after I check the harnesses.

Post back the results and let us know how it goes.

Wow, I just stumbled into this old post and realized I had left the subject "open". Sorry about that!

I learned more about the vehicle's history: It turns out the neighbor had drivened the vehicle to a local shop to get a leaking valve cover gasker replaced. They hosed him over! I found that, somehow, they had forced one of the valve rockers totally off of a push rod ... I refitted and the engine has been running sweetly since. The code was eliminated somehow in all the messing around ... ??
