I would estimate 20-30 hrs to complete a picture but with long periods of drying time inbetween, oils are very slow to dry but brighter and more permanent than other paints.

I have been painting since 1986.

i Love your work! beautiful! Its what Id like to do... damn i should really start painting cars/bikes. Im not really good at painting, here is my 1st try with oils.. and not finished, im not even sure if ill finish it. I really have a problem with mixing colors. Its my dog btw.

I learned how to paint using acrylics, they dry quickly, are water-based and dry waterproof so you can build up layers as with oils. To avoid muddy colours, use atleast 2 pots of water (or turps if using oils), one for cleaning brushes and one kept perfectly clear for watering down the mix. Use several brushes, one for each colour so that they dont pollute eachother. Also, avoid pet-portraits, fur is difficult!
