Hey all;
I got a friend who has a friend who is selling a full turbo setup (stock) off his 2G Eclipse GSX for $150. This includes all plumbing, SMIC, BOV, turbo, everything. It's totally stock, so it's prob T25, right? Its got over 100k miles on it.

So my question, is it worth it? I know I would need a new manifold and DP. Also a new oil pan too. Is there anything else I would belooking at? Is it worth doing? If you were in my place (remember where I stand), would you do it? All opinions are welcome. THANKS!!

Hmmm... it's hard to say, you wont be running a lot o boost but if the turbo is in decent shape i say go for it. You also need injectors, fp, and some type of fuel managment. I say turbo all the way...

I say buy it, and if it dosn't work out you can always sell the parts and get atleast what you paid. :2cents:

I personally would avoid putting a stock turbo with a 100K miles on it ...for $50, I'd call it a deal with everything included, but not more. Just my 2c. I'd save up a tad more and get better equipment.

I think its worth it. When I took off my stock parts all of them were in perfect working condition even though they had lots of miles on em. For a $100 I would defenitly buy it. I mean, come on ... when are you gonna finally be boosting :) Buy em, try em, sell em. I dont think you will regret turboing your car.

Good luck on your decision

David, you ever checked out the pretty much DIY turbo installation on 2gnt.com? It has some really good info and alot of the parts you can make yourself. I'll see if I can pull it up.

Yeah, I've seen that. IDK what I should do. I would be running low boost bc the stock internals cant handle much... however, I am rebuilding the head, so I cant get that ready for turbo then... 100k miles is alot. I would have to check for shaft play and all. I'll talk to my guy and see if he can get the price dropped down alittle. I could always sell it like you said.

How much would a new stock turbo (or slightly used) cost anyways?

If it were 1g stuff, I'd say hop all over it. The t-25 and plastic BOV arent worth it to me. Not that $150 is too much, I just wouldnt use that stuff reguardless of the price.

I would suggest piecing it together considering you probably cant use most of the plumbing since its oppsite. You dont need a new oil pan, you just have to drill and tap your stocker. Also you dont have to worry about fuel management since you already have an afc

I don't have a welder... so yeah, I would need one. IDK if i'm going to take it.

Why do you need a welder?

To tap the stocke? Maybe? No?
No, drill a hole, stick the fitting through and put a nut on the backside of it.

Well, it turns out I'm not getting it. My boy called the dude up at work today and I told him I wouldn't pay more that $75 for it (I know, still too high... but I wanted to see what he would say). Basically, he told me to suck a nut. I told him why I wanted it that price, with the whole 100k miles and piping I probably wouldnt be able to use. Oh, and it turns out the SMIC wasn't included with that. Sad.

Then we got into it because he said it came with the 2nd gen BOV. I'm like... eww. Why didnt you upgrade to the 1st gen BOV, and he's like why? Then we started arguing over which one was better and I basically hung up on him then. Good times. Well worth it though.

So, in conclusion... no turbo for me, david-b.

well if you are in the market, I think blackcrow is still selling a t-25 and I have a smic that I want to get rid of and I'm sure you can get a 1g bov for ~$20-$30

1g BOV 20 bucks. Side mounts are basically just shipping lOL. i would go 14B but. you wont actually need it that big, since your stock internals can handle like what? 5-9 PSI? I don't know if you really want to risk it, sounds like you have put alot of work into your car, then adding the turbo crap. I dunno. You think it would be worth it? how much HP could a turbo really add with like say 6 psi? I honestly don't know so get angry LOL.

9psi on a 10:1 motor is the equalivant of ~14psi in a 8.5:1 motor
