I was wondering if anyone knows who makes one of these screens that takes up the entire radio space. I'm not talking about the flip out screens but the ones that are fixed in that space, like the newer Escalades have. I don't want any of that navigations stuff, just a CD player with that big ass touch screen.

I know Alpine makes a model... http://www.alpine-usa.com/en/products/product.php?model=IVA-W200

Has anyone ever had any personal experience with these?

Are there any other makes?

Will these fit just fine in the factory space?

Thanks a lot!

some of them are factory installed units. there are several companies that make them like pioneer, eclipse, kenwood, and many other companies too. all you need to look for is a double-din unit. that is the size

Are you sure that it is double din in our trucks and not din and a half? I have had people tell me before that double din would not fit. I have an aftermarket din sized cd player in mine and it doesn't look like I could fit another one with it. But it may just be looking that way because of the trim ring around mine. I know that toyota and alot of the imports use double din but I thought GM's were din and a half? Let me know if you know for sure, cause I would like to look into one of these too. I want one that will play dvd's too. Thanks

I don't know about the availability of the din & 1/2 units. I do know that it definitely is not a double din like most. I was looking at mine tonight and there is no way.

Well here's the measurements from Alpine's site

Chassis Size (W x H x D) in: 7" x 3-15/16" x 6-1/2"

Next time i'm in my shop i'll measure the slot out...

I appreciate all the input guys. I was in Circuit City tonight and started talking to the Roadshop guy and he said without a doubt, those double din units won't fit in a Silverado... :frown:

But check this unit out from JVC. I think it's pretty cool...

This unit will for sure work, but I really don't know if it's what I want or not. Gonna have to sleep on this one a while longer.

I had seen that one before. I personally wouldn't buy it. I would want a bigger screen. If there are no screens that fit in the space we have then I would go for one that slides out then up. Those are alright, I guess. It would be nice to have it all flush with the dash though. And I am sure I would end up breaking the screen off somehow. Good Luck and let us know if you pick one up.

I agree I wouldn't drop 600 on that JVC unit, either. I also don't like the flip out screens...they just look out of place in the dash, imo. Oh well, I've just decided to give up on the whole video screen dream. I'm just looking at basic head units now.

if you truck is a 99-02 its a din and a half, if its 03 or newer its a double din and a screen will fit. circuit city carries a dash kit for this. its a met 99-2003 and will bracket to sides of a double din and mount to stock holes in dash. i have put these in before. and i would not waste my money on that jvc if it was me, alot of $ for nothing. i would stay with a good brand alpine, kenwood, clarion, eclipse, pioneer stuff like that.

Can you get a screen to fit a din 1/2 or a kit to mount a double din on a din 1/2? Seems like you may be able to bring the screen out a little to make it fit. Sort of mount it over the hole and not in it.

the only way this will work is to cut the dash itself out because there is about a half inch difference between the two. i did that in my trans am i had was a din and a half and i made it into a double din. was alot of work but looked nice when done.

Man, that's awesome. I thought that the sizes were different, but I just took the salesman's word for it. Only problem is now I'm again stuck at a crossroad as to which unit I should get for my truck. Decisions, decisions.
