well last feb i had a rebuilt atx tranny installed and ive only put 33ish thousand miles on it but in the past three mornings in a row my 4th gear wont kick in|!:banghead:. i either have to put it in neutral and slow down to like 50 and put in back in drive and then it works or just pull over turn the car off and start it back up then it works...and its not my over drive button...i did forget to check my tranny fluid so ima do that tommarow...and i am going to get my inspection sticker tommarow so im also gonna get it looked at there... but does anyone have an idea of whats going on or has anyone had this kinda problem before..?

It could be your end clutch.

I'm thinking that sounds like something to do with your ecu. That would be my guess if it does it once your turn the car off (all the electronics) and then turn it back it on.

Im not exactly sure what it is but ive heard other people have this problem and they were told to replace the end clutch. Maybe hotshot or someone else with an auto will come in and say something or you can pm him.

Nope not the ECU

Two threads on end clutch:

^^^ I just went to a mechaninc to get a few questions about my auto tranny and he said one thing that can affect a belated shift or no shift is the computer. Not saying that is for sure what it is but why is there no chance of it?

That isn't the ECU, that would be the Tranny Control Unit (TCU or TCM). Seperate computer.

If the end clutch was bad, the car would still shift into 4th gear, but 4th gear would act as if you were in neutral. If your having trouble shifting into 4th gear, it would be some sort of electral problem. Probably something to do with the TCU as stated. If you can get your hands on another one just to test out, do it. They're not hard to swap.

the only time it doesnt shift in to fourth is when i start it up for the frist time each day.. any only when i start it up for the first time. then it doesnt have that problem for the rest of the day.
