Hey,
i own a 96 xj and after i bought it i noticed that the back up lights work somethings really when they want too it seems. Also, i put a 3" lift on it and now i have a bad vibration at the higher speeds that drive me crazy! Does anyone have any ideas on what to do with either of these problems above? Thanks for your help.

as for the vibration you will need to install a transfer case spacer kit so that you can put your drive line back to where it needs to be, rockyroad outfitters has them, i put a 2 inch lift on my 96 and had the same problem the spacers will do the trick as for the backup lights could be the Nss.... do they stay on all the time or just some of the time?

hey, they pretty much come on when ever they please. usually if i leave it in reverse long enough the lights will come on. as for the u joints, do u think that the 3 in lift will cause those to go out alot faster? thanks for ur time ryan

me and my pals have all lifted our jeep charokees, 3 inches or more and only the 1986 needed a "drop kit" to help w/the front drive shaft angle.(you can use longer bolts and steele spacers for a few bucks) there are four of us, the only vibration we have experienced is from mud packed in the rims, throwing a wheel wieght, or bustin' a belt in a tire. you gotta keep your tires rotated and balanced..what kind of "high speed" are you talkin' about?? I also just lifted a 1987 Grand Wagoneer 3" and have no vibration issues..did you install a good,,,lift kit w/shocks engineered for a lifted truck??

The backup light issue is common if you read this forum. Rebuild the NSS. The grease dries out and the switch contacts and springs stick in there. Also causes problems such as setting a check engine code (for the transmission).
Vibration upon lift is common and is usually the rear drive shaft. A drop of transfer case will work, but at 3 inches and maybe more later, you might need a CV driveshaft and SYE kit (slip yoke eliminator). All the higher lifts will need this mod, especially the 97-2001 models (they changed the drive shaft design).

My BU lights had the exact same problem. They'd come on sometime after I shifted (like 10-15 secs). Disassembled, cleaned and regreased, it's all better now.
