97' Alternator Replacement Hep!!!!

Hello everybody, i need to replace my alternator on my 97 expedition
to start this is very different from other vehicles, first question how
do i release tension on the belt and when i do how do i know how much
pressure it needs back......any help thanks....:rolleyes:

The belt has a tensioner that keeps the proper amount of tension on the belt. It will be an aluminum piece that has a black pulley on it. Look close to the pulley and there may be a square hole that is used to pull the tensioner back. It is point B in the picture. http://usera.imagecave.com/way2old/expybelt.gif

I DID LOCATE THE PULLEY. WHAT DO I DO NEXT.,,,ITS MY FIRST TIME DOING THIS ...THANKS ::shakehead

Put a ratchet in it and push in the direction of the broken arrow. Be sure to disconnect the battery negative cable first. Then remove the belt, remove the connections and unbolt the alternator.
