Took my air filter off to check it. It was soaked with engine oil. What does this mean?

Usually oil in the filter housing denotes a clogged PCV valve. Change the valve and air filter and make a check to see if that solved the problem after driving a few hundred miles..

That, or on such a high mileage motor, you have a condition known as "blow by" where there is compression escaping past your pistons because of worn rings or a damaged area in your piston cylinder, into the block and it is blowing oil vapor into the air filter area. I hope it is as simple as the PCV valve needing replaced as the previous poster mentioned.

Please let us know what it turns out to be.

replaced air filter and the pcv valve. hope this solves the problem. so i guess the only thing to do now, is to wait and see.
