Some states the law differs but in most the lemon law refers to having to have a car serviced 3 times within a certain time period (which varies around the country) for the same problem like say you bought a new car and within the first year it had to go into the shop 3 times because the trans. would not shift into gear properly. After the 3 time depending on the local lemon law and if it is even applicable that would constitute that car being a lemon as it has a reoccuring problem and the dealership would either have to give you your money back or give you another new car of same model.

Depending on the state, almost any repeat problem can constitute a lemon. Here in VA, I believe it's bringing a new vehicle in 5 times for the same problem within 18 months, or something similar.
