You guys are probably shaking your head....."what is she thinking" lol.

I'm aware that the box probably won't hold if I was to put a turbo kit in a auto, but what I'm interested in knowing, would a shift kit be reliable if I was to install one in? It obviously would be on low psi ( 5-7 pound boost ). If so, would it be as reliable as to a manual?

my opinion, no it won't. Plus you'll be dealing with auto lag and Turbo lag, not good stuff. but thats a personal opinion. However, i do know some people who'v turbod auto's and they like them and they seem to hold ok. I wouldn't though.

Thanks for your reply. I have one more question though.... You said you know people who have put turbo in auto transmissions.

I've been looking on the net- to my best knowledge- I think FMAX,DRAG or GREDDY turbo kits would be the "safer" option with a stock engine. Is there any way of finding out (from people who have put it in their auto car), what would be a better turbo kit and what shift kits do you or your friends recommend?

well I'd go with greddy if you found one that you like with them, as far as shift kits go, i'll ask around. use the search and you'll find tons of info on different kinds of turbo's and what people have to say. To safely run boost just make sure you get a reasonably sized turbo , not too big, and run low boost. And one more tip: when buying a boost controller don't cheap out cuz thats your lifeline, if that messes up it could send your boost level way too high and thats never good. hope that helped.

I've tried to find any information possible about turbos for auto trannies and there is barely any if none, info to find. Could you recommend me to a website or anything related to what i'm looking for?
I know not many people put turbo in auto(which is why I can't find anything).
It would be much appreciated...

I own a auto 98 prelude with a t3/t4 turbo. It only has 5psi but you better belive that when I am on the throttle the wastegate is always open so it is really at 7psi. Gretty has a wire harness the is perfect for my car that goes with my auto trans that you use with thair boost controler. I beleive they only go about 700 for both the harness and the controller. Yes your car will have lag but my car only has turbo lag the tranns does not seem to have any. If you would only want to run 5psi I would get a smaller turbo. I plan to have my car at 15psi in about 6 months and will still use the auto trans. I am getting a company called level 10 to upgrade my trans to a stage 3 turbo tranny but that costs about $5,400 and I do belive that it is still only rated at 400hp. I dont know what hp I will be at when I am done but I hope it will be closer to 500hp then 400hp. I also will be using a piggyback ecu that is fully programable not your regular turbo timer and I think the one I am getting is about $1,000. Do belive any one who tells you that if your going for power manual is the only way to go but you can still use your auto but to do it right you will pay 100% to 200% more to do it.

You could build a good setup on your Prelude, regardless of the fact that its an auto. The tranny won't like it, but if it goes out, then do a manual swap. The nice thing about automatics is that you dont have lag between shifts. Now i dont know what the guy above was talking about "auto lag" but an auto actually creates more load on an engine so spool would be increased.

Also, all of the info you need for your turbo setup and all of the parts are found here....

Just a little FYI, if your wastegate is always open, the turbo wouldn't spool. Another thing, PSI doesn't determine power, so why don't you give us some useful specs on your setup....

Example

-CoreyR T3 Topmount
-Garrett T3/60-1 .63ar
-3" Downpipe and exhaust
-Tial 38mm wastegate
-Tial 50mm bov
-RC550cc injectors
-etc....you get the idea

and maybe some pictures...:D

My car is now sold. Decided it's too much time and money. Thanks for all your advice though.

For anyone else thinking about going FI on a 5th gen auto... do Not do it.

The 5th gen auto is already very weak... adding huge amounts of stress to it will usually wear it out in a matter of months.
